UPDATED: JAN 8, 2018 On tap at the brewpub. Brown black pour with thin off white head. Aroma is quite roasty, piney hops, light citrusy notes, mild coffee. Taste is bitter, roasty, well balanced. Palate is med bodied, light carbonation, a tad thin. Good black IPA, hadn't had one in a long time.

Bien bonne!

on tap at bateau de nuit, qc. unclear dark brown pour with a creamy reviving beige cap, nice lacing. bitter chocolate and other dark roasted maltiness, cascadian citrius and pine, bark, sweetish ginger root - hint of sweetness, some grapefruit peel. average carbonation, light body - oily and maybe a tad heavy for style; sharp and almost balanced piney-citrusy finish. again, corpulent if not stout-ish, but it is a tasty hoppy dark ale. enjoyed!

UPDATED: MAY 22, 2017 My Bottom Line:
Flowers bloom through this Black IPA’s crunchy roastiness, lending black grape fruitiness and complexity to an otherwise resinous profile.

Further Personal Perceptions:
-A veil of foam covers the dark brown-hued black.
-The mouthfeel is quite lean and drinkable.
-Hop aroma is as well developed as the finish. This is not just a bitter bomb, thankfully.
-As with most Hermite beers I’ve had so far, this is done with taste and knowledge.

On tap at the brewpub.

On tap @ L’Hermite. Dark brown with a small beige head and some lacing. Aroma is mostly of chocolate and roasted malt and piney notes. Taste is also dominated by roasted malt and chocolate, but there’s also piney and citrusy notes as well as moderate bitterness. Medium body. Medium carbonation. Moderate bitter chocolate finish. Decent Black IPA, no real flaw except that it’s too stout-ish for my liking.
