Dry, wine-like, fruity aroma. Clear, golden-tan with low, white, fully-diminishing head. Very dry, wine-like flavour with sweet underlying grainy malt notes and light grassy hop flavour. Almost no bitterness allows both wine and malt characters to show through. Medium body is very dry with low carbonation. An interesting and well-received experiment, though I’m not so sure I’d want to drink a whole lot of this one. Sampled at Mondial de la Bière 2005.

Bottle - 500ml. Hazy golden body with lively carbonation and an average white foamy head. Malty/hoppy aroma with grassy and white wine hints. Taste is slightly misbalanced. It is dominated by malty flavors and carries some flowery and yeasty notes. Ends with a decent bittersweet finish. Drinkable.

Nothing too impressive here. Standard blonde with a fruity nose (expected for a Chardonnay beer). Maybe a little perfume too. Alcohol is not really hidden, maybe this would do good in a mulled drink? No apparent bitterness, just some grape tannins maybe (maybe not... I might be doing some associations). Would I drink again? Probably not. It is a stepup from the usual Barberie though.

Pours a light golden yellow with a frothy white top. Aroma is slightly fruity with distinct grain backing. Taste is light and fruity but nothing interesting. At the 2012 Winterlude Winter Beers and Wines.

Metalchopz (3536) - Cantley, Quebec, CANADA - MAR 9, 2011
Originally rated May 2009. Thanks to Driss for this one (brought back from Quebec City). Comes in a wine bottle, hence the Chardonnay. Pours a hazy rich golden colour with a white wine head and has good lacing. Kind of smells like a witbier (or a blond on the lees) with some other scent I cannot put my tongue on (like cheese or almost farm aromas). The wine is present in the taste. Sparkling mouthfeel with blonde malt. The alcohol is very well hidden. Interesting beer, mixing the Chardonnay and beer together. One of the better brews from La Barberie.

UPDATED: MAR 25, 2009 Cloudy golden pour with a thin white head. Aroma of grapes with some sourness. Flavor of grapes, yeast with some acidity. The body is light with a creamy texture and lively carbonation. I never expect much from this brewery, but this one is good. Previous rating : 6/3/6/3/13 3.1.

Bottle shared with blankboy, HogTownHarry, jerc, mabel & tupalev - courtesy of blankboy. Bright golden with a small white head. Aroma is sourish and slightly yeasty, with that indescribable note that appears in so many middle-rate Quebec beers. Thin body. Flavour has fruity notes of chardonnay, a bit of spice, mild yeast - kinda reminds me of a saison, actually. Not too bad despite the so-so aroma - although I find the 10% alc hard to believe, seems more like 6% or 7% to me.
