Orange gold ale with no head. Light berries in urine and pot notes. A malt with methane overtones, and burned rubber. Just plain horrible. Mondiale 2006. jercraigs (11087) - Toronto, Ontario, CANADA - OCT 22, 2006
Bottle from Marche Jovi. Dark amber brown body with a small white head. Strange yeasty musty aroma is very familiar, bit odd. Lightly fruity. Similar flavour, mild but fruity tang, light bitterness and barely there muted malt. Average palate is quite carbonated. Meh, not unpleasant but a bit odd. mabel (10004) - Toronto, Ontario, CANADA - NOV 5, 2006
[070-20061021] 500mL. Light, tarty fruit aroma. Cloudy, dark amber-orange body with many bubbles throughout and a very creamy off-white head. Flavour is reminiscent of bandaids and fruit, a bit astringent and skunky. Light palate. Overall... enh.
(Rating #542) blankboy (7884) - Toronto, Ontario, CANADA - DEC 11, 2006
Bottle shared with HogTownHarry and GregClow -- courtesy of HogTownHarry. Pours a hazy dark amber-orange with lots of floaties and a small diminishing white head. Aroma of light hops with fruit and yeast. Flavour of slightly tart fruit with yeast and a light bitter finish. Light to medium bodied, quite carbonated. Meh, pretty boring but it’s O.K. for what it is I guess.

Bottle (500ml). With blankboy and GregClow, my bottle. Really wanted to like this - I like cassis. Hazy deep amber pour with tons of large floaties but a nice large fluffy white head. Dry aroma, very faint tart fruit, generic malt, slightly bitter herbal hops. Taste is BORING - weak, papery malt, dried-up stale hops, a whisper of fruit that I guess is cassis - it says so on the bottle - mostly just a big ol’ glass of nothing. Watery, ever so slightly tart and astringent but nicely carbonated, with a quick finish - a pretty weak effort, but at least it doesn’t have that nasty sourness so many of its confreres have. Bottle: Poured a soft red/pink color ale with a big foamy head with great retention. Aroma of cassis is light with some detectable yeast. Taste is a weird mix between fresh cassis, which is not a very sweet fruits, and a pale ale with lots of yeast. I don’t really like the mix between the two as they seems to clash instead or meshing together. No infection which is a good thing for this brewery that is not renowned for providing infection-free products. Glouglouburp (6103) - Montreal, Quebec, CANADA - AUG 20, 2006
UPDATED: DEC 29, 2009 Cloudy dark redish-orange with short lived off-white head. Spicy orange smell. Taste is fruity (cranberries, cherries, strawberries) with some coriander followed by herbs flavours and a very mild bitterness. Unlike other Barberie beers, this one’s fruity taste didn’t feel artificial. This is far from the Pale Ale that it claims to be. However this is a surprisingly drinkable refreshing fruit beer. One could say that with this new offering Barberie is trying to make a come-back but it’s hard to make a come-back when you’ve never been anywhere. rodenbach99 (4678) - Longueuil, Quebec, CANADA - NOV 27, 2007
Mild berries over bland cereal malts in the aroma with some burnt rubber apparent. Almost opaque reddish copper coloured body is topped by a low white head that recedes to a partial cover. Sulfur, rubber, and dirt in the very tart flavour. Strong bitterness and puckering aftertaste. Dry? There is no malt character whatsoever. Watery texture is offset by aggressive carbonation that needles the tongue. I’d heard that they had made improvements to the bottling line. Really? It’s not noticeable. Drainpour. Half pint glass. Fridge temperature. Bottle (Peluso, Jun-06).
