COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
La Choulette Ambrée is the classic amber version of a French bières de gardes. It has a wonderfully spicy aroma and is fullflavored, but effervescent and refreshing.

I really liked this beer. it’s head is very creamy but not so much that it deadens the aroma. It’s bright and a little sweet. If you like a heavily herbed nose or a traditional American hop this might not be the beer for you. The heavy banana on the nose and the caramel flavor makes it almost a dessert beer, but I wouldn’t go that far. If it were a little higher in alcohol it might have enough contrast. That said, I’m drinking it with strawberries and it’s quite complimentary (not in the glass). I think it plays well with lower acid fruit but might be too similar to cooked sugars, chocolates or caramel to be complimentary. A nutty cheese might also do the trick. I’ll also say that my bottle is about a year past the sell by date but I doubt it’s anywhere near the drink by date. Seems like some age might be helpful.

This bear is more like a fermented batch of fruits. While there is a nice hint of caramel in it, the main taste is overripe friuts. A very bland beer.

Aroma is malty, sweet winter fruity with a nutty bitter smell. Taste is heavy malty and sweet, Belgian style yeasty, winter fruit cake with raisins and figs then accentuated by a firm hop bitterness in the end.
