COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
La Choulette Ambrée is the classic amber version of a French bières de gardes. It has a wonderfully spicy aroma and is fullflavored, but effervescent and refreshing.

Not as light and fruity as some biere de gardes. Lots of amber and malts. Some nutty taste. But I prefer the farmhouse style a bit more.

(Rating #3605)

i hosted a bit of a beer tasting for my mum and her friends and they seemed to like this the best. it was use by 2002 which i guess is why it was slightly more subdued and less spicy than i expected. rich ruby colour. a full over-ripe apple sweetness smooths into some marzipan and then dries out with some stale tea - certainly the cellaring did it some good

UPDATED: JAN 25, 2004 Head is initially average sized, frothy, off-white, mostly lasting. Body is hazy dark amber, bottle conditioned. Aroma is moderately malty (caramel, cookie), moderately yeasty (mold, cobwebs), with notes of peach, grass, sour apple, hint of alcohol. Flavor is moderately sweet, moderately acidic. Finish is lightly sweet, moderately acidic, lightly bitter. Medium body, watery texture, lively carbonation, lightly alcoholic. Sourish, and not entirely wholesome.

Strong honey aroma dark amber, low creamy head. Woody and sweet honeyish tastenotes. medium bodied but with a heavy attitude. Sugary sweet, almost vineous aftertaste. Seems to be a bit out off balance to me.

750mL bottle, BB 4/25/07. Poured clear, medium sparkly orange/amber with a well-formed cap of white head. The aroma picked up spicy darker fruits, dusty notes of mild oxidation, and an almost vinegary tartness. The flavor had a soft lemon and vinegary tartness throughout with sweet dark fruits and toffee across the middle.. dry peppery and floral notes hit on the finish.. just a bit too tart, perhaps because this was a little old.. still tasty, though. Medium-bodied with tartness beating out the sweet stuff.. lemony finish. I’d drink this again.

Idiosynkrasie (7435) - Bielefeld, GERMANY - MAR 7, 2016
330ml bottle. Clear, dark amber colour with average, thick, fairly lasting and lacing, white head. Fruity aroma delivers a plethora of red and blue berry notes, additional notes of sweet and sour cherries as well as a touch of plum. Taste is moderately sweet, slightly sugary, fruity, notes of cherry, hints of plum, all with a minimally artificial jelly bear touch; leafy overtones in the finish. Unsatisfying discrepancy between aroma and taste.

Bottle (Volo) Fine haze, amber light brown. Good solid fine tanned top, nice lacing. Pleasant nose, malty, gentle aromatic hops with hints of spice and yeast. Slightly earthy, woody in character with semi-sweet malt touch. Smooth and very easy to drink. Be aware this one is 8 %. Classic.
