Ruby color, thick, frothy white head. Cinnamon aroma, maybe cranberries too. Flavor of cinnamon, malt and alcohol. Light to medium body, liquorous texture. It’s good but I have higher expectations for a "bière de Noël". DougShoemaker (3147) - Toronto, Ontario, CANADA - SEP 27, 2004
Caramel, candied malt, and toffee in the aroma, russett, pours a huge, billowy, tan head, some fine lace. Malt, almonds, red plums, and apple butter flavours. Complex, bitter, softly sweet, quite warming. The sweetest example of the style, I’ve had the pleasure of enjoying! Ernest (7696) - Boulder, Colorado, USA - JUL 4, 2004
Head is initially average sized, frothy, off-white, mostly diminishing. Body is clear medium amber. Aroma is moderately malty (cookie, caramel), lightly yeasty (cobwebs), with notes of apple/pear, peach, vinegar, and alcohol. Flavor is moderately sweet, moderately acidic. Finish is lightly sweet, moderately acidic, lightly bitter. Medium body, watery texture, lively carbonation. AceOfHearts (1374) - Mountain View, California, USA - JUN 23, 2004
Bottle. A bit dark for a bier de garde, the style that just came out of nowhere on ratebeer sometime last year. It goes surprisingly well with the environmentally irresponsible half pound of beef that I am consuming with it. Thick, complex malty aroma with hints of fruit, and some holiday type spices. Sweet in the finish. The mouthfeel could be a little bit stronger, but otherwise this is an excellent beer! mikeben (355) - Naperville, Illinois, USA - JUN 20, 2004
UPDATED: SEP 2, 2004 Very spicey but had a bit of a rotted wood taste. I really did not like this beer and could not drink it again.Too musty for its own good.

Dark tan color with a tinge of blood. Earthy caramel and alcohol aroma. Taller tan head. Light malt and nut sweetness Earthy cobwebs and mild alcohol finish. Light and airy on the palate. Alcohol a bit to present in this one to rate higher. Seems more like an amber malt liqour. dirtymike (2016) - Manchester, New Hampshire, USA - MAR 16, 2004
Light brown to ruby in color with a small off-white head. Aroma of chocolate and roasted malts, fruit and spice.Flavor is of caramel and biscuits.Finishes slightly to the sweet. Volgon (2763) - Manchester, New Hampshire, USA - MAR 14, 2004
Best before April 16, 2005. Drank on March 14, 2004. Clear ruby color with a thin tan head. Deep caramel maltiness, with some bread character. Smooth full mouthfeel, starts and ends very slightly sweet. Ends rich and delicious. BeerLimey (2154) - California, USA - FEB 11, 2004
Clear reddish appearance, decent heda formation, decent carbonation. Toffee apple aroma, woody, moderately spiced, some nustiness. Malty and spicy palate, sweet caramel and plums with alcohol noticeable. Sourness almost cheesey in the second half with a spicy finish. Aubrey (3516) - Bellingham, Washington, USA - FEB 8, 2004
Clear and copperish with a fizzy head. Nose was filled with dirty feet, must and earth. Light, very effervescent and champagne-like mouthfeel. Sweet caramel malts ... a little too sweet, actually. Had a nice little funk to it, with a sour finish. Only a mild bitterness to boot.
