COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Stronger, fuller flavored version of the classic bière de garde. The New York Times (your Paper of Record) just anointed this beer the ultimate bière de garde, and rightly so. It’s a rich, rare treat from one of France’s old guard craft breweries. Be there or be square.

750ml bottle courtesy of Lance! Sweet and raisony, nice and warm. Quite nice to sip and enjoy on a cold night.

For an x-mas beer this was a bit of a disappointment. BB date just 2 mos away. Poured a beautiful deep amber with decent tho not frothy head. Aroma was very subdued, mild malt sweetness and not much more. The beer went down very easy and had a slightly velvety mouthfeel, however I found it pretty one dimensional and lacking of anything that stood out. Enjoyable? Yes. Top notch? nope, sorry.

A lovely winter treat tried from a 750ml bottle at a winter beer tasting. Pours a clear brown with frothy off white head. Notes of pepper, spice and dark fruits and candied malt.

wickedpete (636) - Lexington Park, Maryland, USA - DEC 19, 2007
Clear amber color with a creamy pillowy head. Aroma of yeast, fruit and spice. Flavor of honey and bread but a slight metallic taste in the front. Dry, clean finish. Quite enjoyable.

DrGonzo (625) - Somerville, Massachusetts, USA - JAN 2, 2005
Dark amber orange, big head and thick lacing. Light spicy hop aroma. Perfectly balanced, caramel malts, typical mineral water flavor, spice. Soft yet rich, thicker than average biere de garde. Excellent brew.

From a corked 750ml bottle. Pours a cloudy light brown haze, with a foamy white head. Aroma was not there so much. Picked up some toasted bread and alcohol. Taste was slightly better with some sweetness coming thru. Not much flavor on this beer. Would not purchase again.

obisbeer (568) - Barcelona, SPAIN - FEB 4, 2005
Deep amber brown with a thick tan head. Mettallic roasted malt with some molasses and woodiness. Rich in the mouth with a sweetness that creeps across the tongue. Molassses, burnt carmel, some fruit and eathy marzipan. Not bad winter treat.

badhack (566) - San Francisco, California, USA - JAN 3, 2015
From Toronado. Poured into tulips. Epic floaties, not much head. I think bartender shook this a bit. Strong yeast flavor, tomato and a little vegetable, spicy, some malt, a little tangy.

bewyder (543) - FRANCE - JAN 8, 2016
Ambrée cuivrée, assez ronde, maltée douce et légèrement épicée, une Noël bien équilibrée, même si peu singulière. Bouteille 33cl achetée chez BIEREStube, Paris, France, bue le 20/12/2015.

3.6
Brodie (540) - Boone, North Carolina, USA - JAN 9, 2004
Malty aroma - chocolate and biscuit - with dried fruits. Flavor has an even balance. Dry, slightly astringent (grapeskins) finish, mild warming.
