Stronger, fuller flavored version of the classic bière de garde. The New York Times (your Paper of Record) just anointed this beer the ultimate bière de garde, and rightly so. It’s a rich, rare treat from one of France’s old guard craft breweries. Be there or be square.

Bottle. Hazy amber with tiny floaties. The aroma has a strange smokish mild woodish sweet aroma, Medium good creamy white head. Bit sweet toasty malty flavour with some yeast and some spice, slight sour touch. Thanks yespr.

Bottle from Super Saver. Hazy ruby coppery pour with 1-finger off-white head. Aroma of caramel malt, fruit, spice, hopcitrus. The taste was caramel malty, spicy, with some nutmeg, brown sugar, maple syrup, and slight hops. Medium palate with a lot of complexity.

jercraigs (10886) - Toronto, Ontario, CANADA - DEC 17, 2007
Bottle @ Cole’s Christmas Tasting 2007. Copper body with a fast fading white head. Sweet aroma, light yeast and very light notes of fruit and spice. Similar flavour, light overall profile, mild fruit and spices echo the aroma. (6+) Average palate. Not unpleasant but fails to inspire.

cubs (10714) - Fort Collins, Colorado, USA - DEC 11, 2010
Tasted from a 750 mL bottle purchased in Denver, Colorado. Red orange appearance with lots dispersed sediment. A bit fruity medium body aroma. Bread-like flavor thats seems to be drawing a lot of flavor from the sediment. A bit of fruitiness that’s somewhat like sour oranges. Interesting but not my favorite.

marcus (10682) - Sacramento, California, USA - DEC 21, 2010
Bottle from Healthy Spirits. Pours amber with a thick off-white head and a toffee aroma. There is a carbonated caramel malt flavor with candi sugar and spice. Good but not exceptional.

DuffMan (10667) - the land of bitumen, beef & beer, Alberta, CANADA - MAY 12, 2014
Bottle, shared at game night. Medium amber with a lively off white head, floculent colloidal yeast at the end of the pour. Fairly simple profile of caramel and marzipan flavours, light sweet spiciness.

onceblind (10593) - Denver, Colorado, USA - DEC 25, 2014
Hazy dark copper with a big grassy hop aroma and tomato-like undertone. Nice flavor though featuring a sort of toffee biscuit note. The tomato tone is just slightly there on the aftertaste though. Unfortunate.
