COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Stronger, fuller flavored version of the classic bière de garde. The New York Times (your Paper of Record) just anointed this beer the ultimate bière de garde, and rightly so. It’s a rich, rare treat from one of France’s old guard craft breweries. Be there or be square.

Apple cider smell noted. The beer tasted like the small of evergreen trees. Very carbonated beer.

Dark tan color with a tinge of blood. Earthy caramel and alcohol aroma. Taller tan head. Light malt and nut sweetness Earthy cobwebs and mild alcohol finish. Light and airy on the palate. Alcohol a bit to present in this one to rate higher. Seems more like an amber malt liqour.

Lightly hazy brown body with a fizzy dirty tan and white head. The aroma is sweet and dusty. Caramel and lots of yeast. The flavor is much the same,. Harshness in the aftertaste. Acidic and sweet. Ok but not real great.

Bottle shared by Blake. Clear brown body with a thin ring of white bubbles. Dusty limestone and light hops in the aroma. Brown malt and musty dry hops round out the flavor.

This is supposed to be a "fuller flavored version of the classic bière de garde," but I found it to be a bit thin. Pouring a lighter brown body, it sports a fizzy, cream colored head that visits only briefly. The aroma is sweet, sweet malts with dark, hard candy and a bit of nutty bitterness. The sweet malts taste lightly roasted and the candy flavors remain strong, the bitterness fading into a memory. The finish is rather abrupt, clean without much lasting flavor.

Red/brown with a good-sized white head. Sulphury, earthy nose with notes of caramel, strawberries, and prunes. Light flavor, musty, somewhat sweet, with some fruity (strawberry, cherry notes) overlaid by a musty bitterness.

Had this at BJ’s Winter Ale Fest. Beer poured a clear, dark amber color wth an average, frothy, off-white, mostly diminishing head. The aroma was pretty plain jane: moderately malty with notes of roasted grain and caramel with light miscellaneous notes of clove, coriander, trace raisin. The flavor is moderately sweet and lightly bitter with an average-length finish that ends with an increasing amount of bitterness until it ends with a heavily bitter pop. There is an unfortunate unclean flavor here too. The body was medium-to-full, the texture was creamy, the carbonation was soft and there was a light alcoholic burn.

Hazy orange, amber colour with a white head. Malty, spicy aroma with a light acidic note. Malty, sweet flavor with a balanced spicy note and again this light acidic hint.

Sampled on 3/26/2011. This Biere de Garde pours a medium brown color from a 750ml bottle. Medium sized beige, rocky foamy head, with good retention and nice lacing. The aroma is caramel, fruity and sweet. The malts are caramel and fruity. The hops are earthy. Malty, but not very sweet. Nice carbonation. Seems like a milder Biere de Garde. Mouthfeel is full and round. Finish is clean and smooth. Aftertaste is slightly sweet.

05-APR-2012, bottle @Morten. Amber with fluffy off-white head. Caramelly and spicy but not like most Danish X-mas brews - more subdued use of spice. Fine more elegantX-mas brew with fruity malty notes.
