Stronger, fuller flavored version of the classic bière de garde. The New York Times (your Paper of Record) just anointed this beer the ultimate bière de garde, and rightly so. It’s a rich, rare treat from one of France’s old guard craft breweries. Be there or be square.

Medium translucent brown color with minimal off-white head and little lacing. Aroma is rich with sharp fruitiness and malts. Flavor has strong malts up front but fades away quickly and becomes dry and papery. Seems oxidized but that’s apparently what a biere de garde is supposed to taste like according to it’s style description?

Ingen duft! Kraftig karbonering med næsten champagne agtig konsistens. Behagelig mundfylde, men beskeden eftersmag. Lidt smag af jord og rodfrugter. Ikke meget jul over den. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Bottle from Carrefour, Calais. Hazy golden coloured with a large white foamy head. It has a toffee and slight spicy fruity flavour with a smooth fruity finish. Ok, but too high ABV for the flavour.

freretoc (1935) - Besançon, FRANCE - MAY 6, 2016

themightylazza (108) - - DEC 26, 2015
This is a beefed up biere de garde for the festive season, deep golden in colour, aroma of sweetmalt and spices. The palate is sweet caramel malt with a spicy background and warming dry finish. A subtle and very pleasant beer from northern France.

Calisky (3023) - ALSACE, FRANCE - DEC 10, 2015

Pinball (12231) - Copenhagen, DENMARK - JAN 7, 2015
bottle.clear yellow, large yellow head. sourish and flowery aroma. flavor is yeasty, a little hay, good dose of sweet spices, sweet malts, alc. level suits the sweetness well.

badhack (564) - San Francisco, California, USA - JAN 3, 2015
From Toronado. Poured into tulips. Epic floaties, not much head. I think bartender shook this a bit. Strong yeast flavor, tomato and a little vegetable, spicy, some malt, a little tangy.

onceblind (10319) - Denver, Colorado, USA - DEC 25, 2014
Hazy dark copper with a big grassy hop aroma and tomato-like undertone. Nice flavor though featuring a sort of toffee biscuit note. The tomato tone is just slightly there on the aftertaste though. Unfortunate.

DuffMan (10602) - the land of bitumen, beef & beer, Alberta, CANADA - MAY 12, 2014
Bottle, shared at game night. Medium amber with a lively off white head, floculent colloidal yeast at the end of the pour. Fairly simple profile of caramel and marzipan flavours, light sweet spiciness.
