GABF 2012, October 12, Friday. Sweet and thick. Lots of brown sugar and some some caramel balanced by earthy hops. Great palate, and well-hidden alcohol. daknole (11049) - Scottsdale, Arizona, USA - OCT 22, 2012
Brown color with a light head. A few samples of this from GABF! I get a lot of hops in the nose and they mix well with the brown sugar and toffee notes. Flavor is sweet and hoppy at the same time. A hint of dryness but again some sticky malts. Love it. smaynard6000 (1167) - Apopka, Florida, USA - MAY 16, 2012
on tap at the brewery. My 200th rating! A murky dark red with small frothy white head. Nose is full of malts, nice bit of caramel. Only a small note of alcohol in this despite it being almost 11%. Full bodied with slick mouthfeel, soft carbonation. Nice long finish with this, very sweet and lightly bitter as well. A very malty barleywine, and very enjoyable. Tap at Brewery Feb 2012-Pours deep copper hue with a small slightly fizzy soapy eggshell head. nose of huge malts, lots of carmel sweetness and dark fruits. flavors of carmel sweetness up front follow with lots of resinous hops in mid palate and remain long into the finish as a slow fade. Wow, i can tell this would go into my "mangler" category of strong brews-not something i drink alot of anymore. I wish i had this a bit more fresh with a bigger hop presence however, its still very hoppy and will age very nice!

On tap at the brewery. Well, really no need to describe this. The commercial description is actually spot on. The only thing that I’ll add is that the finish is a bit oily and soapy. Also, my 50th barley wine.
