Growler from a trade with ketchepillar. Pour very dark brown with light brown head. Aromas of roasted malts, chocolate, and espresso. Sweet milk chocolate flavor with roasted malts and coffee. Full body with soft carbonation and a silky mouthfeel. Really nice! Thanks Sam.

Draft at GABF. Pours a good looking deep black with a brown head that fades away. Nose is on the sweeter side, licorice and char. Some sublte roasted grain and a slight hoppy spin. The sweetness dominates in the nose. On the palate, it is similar. On the sweeter side but with enough bitterness to support it. Creamy mouthfeel and more of the char and licorice. Alcohol is noted. Not a bad beer, just not my style.

GABF 2011. Oily black with a tan head. Aroma of roasted dark black malt with dark toasty biscuit, a light touch of chocolate, and roasted coffee. Nice full body with a long linger, a huge whopping of malts with no real bitterness or hop profile. As sweet as it is burnt, there are tones of coffee, chocolate, roasted black malts, and general stoutiness. Pretty dang good.

Pretty much black. Dark brown head. Meaty, smoky, intense aroma. Rich and thick, the molasses comes through big time. Lots of sweet malts but also richly hopped. Burnt dark sugars, figs, molasses...intense malts and an inky finish with lots of burnt sugar character. Has all the intensity of a good impy, but with some style too.

At ABQ beer fest. Black with nice brown head. Excellent powdery chocolate aroma and carob, and toasted cashew butter. Thick viscous palate. Mouth-coating brew! Coffee liqueur, rich, dense flourless cake. Vanilla bean. Malted milk. Dark, dark syrups. Agave syrup. Ink but no iodine. Roast but not burnt. Fudgy with extra dark Belgian chocolate truffle. Oooh yeah!

On tap at GABF 2011- had a few samples of this! Pours a murky dark brown color with a medium tan head. The aroma is rich coffee, some brown sugars and dark fruit. A rich flavor of coffee, roast, light dark fruit, fairly viscous, a very robust rich beer. Excellent. Finishes creamy and sweet.

On tap at GABF. Pours with a bit black body and a large deep brown head. Aromas are chocolate, rich, alcohol, light smoke, anise and tar. Flavors are a bit smokey, rich, thick, chocolate, anise, caramel, bready and a touch vinous. Rich with a light caramelization or melanoidin character. Medium bubbles, mouth-coatingly viscous. Well made. I really enjoyed this one!
