4.1 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
On tap at the brewery. Dark red with average-sized frothy white head. Aroma characterized by a bit of caramel malt but mostly smokiness. Full bodied with a creamy and sticky mouthfeel and soft carbonation. Moderately sweet but with a whole lot of smoke dominating the palate. I wish I could have compared this side-by-side with Gracias Por Fumar but it seems just a bit less intense. Quite good.
On draught at Slice Parlor - Albuquerque. Pours a clear dark amber color with a slight tan head. Solid smokey aroma that is not off-putting. Medium body with full mouthfeel. Even dry/sweet malty flavor balance. Nice malty character accented by the smoked malt. No big phenolic bite. Underlying hops flavor and bitterness make a solid contribution. So well-balanced you’ll want more than one. NachlamSie (3523) - Denver, Colorado, USA - JAN 20, 2013
Pint at the brewery. Pours a crystalline red with a small white head. This is a straight forward traditional rauch, but not with enough smoke. There’s nothing here other than the bacon and campfire aroma with gentle lager notes and light malty sweetness. The flavor is balanced but is light for the style. The finish has that tasty smoldering quality. This is a really great concept and is very clean with a great flavor. It just left me wanting more. Needs more smoke. cubs (10675) - Fort Collins, Colorado, USA - JAN 3, 2013
Tap @ La Cumbre. Pours a clear, rust orange appearance with an off white head. Smoked woody, light pork/ham/meaty, herbal, chewy caramel aroma. A bit fruity, chewy caramel malty, smoked ham, slightly woody flavor. Really a solid american rauchbier. Travlr (25533) - Charlotte, North Carolina, USA - DEC 19, 2012
Draft at the source, courtesy of ketchepillar and erway, thank you gentlemen! Hazy variegated golden brown color, cream colored head. Aroma of subtle smoulder, lightly spiced caramel. Taste is creamy and malty with a nice edge of smoke, just the right amount. Very tasty.
