UPDATED: DEC 29, 2017 Mooi robijnrood van kleur met off-white schuimkraag die langzaam inzakt. Rood fruit, licht moutig, snoepjes, confituur. Zoetig, licht plakkerig, mild bittertje in de afdronk. Alcohol zit goed verstopt. Verraderlijk doordrinkbaar. Mooie barley-wine.

Bottle, [email protected] Bière. Pours hazy brown amber with a medium, staying creamy yellowish head. Aroma has toasted caramel, vinious, vanilla. Low carbonation, fine dry and quite creamy mouthfeel. Flavour has sweet malts, caramel, toasted, mild hazelnuts. Quite bitter finish. No sign of the 12%. Lovely.

33cl bottle from Brasserie La Debauche, Angouleme, August 2017.

BBD: 003-2022. Batch: Lot 087.
In short: bitter barley wine.
Pours hazy copper with frothy off white head. Moderate head retention, some good lacing. Roasty, biscuity, bready, ripe fruit, dry fruits, raisins, licorice nose. Full body, soft carbonation, oily texture. Taste is malt forward, quite robust, boozy, palate warrmer, roasted malts, caramel, licorice, dry fruits, long warming aftertaste. Good.

Bottle, picked up in Paris. Great label. Nice thick dirty red brown pour, white foam. A big beer, sweet and spicy malts, quite a decent bitterness, booze coming through. A tad rough round the edges, maybe I could have let it sit for a while, but enjoyable.

(prodigieusement miel de sarrasin, spicey bittersweet onion jam, à 12° la barley slape !)

Obfita, drobna i trwała piana, barwa miedziana, opalizująca.

Bottle at C&R Pre-GBBF Tasting 2017. It pours clear deep mahoaganny brown with a small beige head. The aroma is earthy, woody, toasted malt, bit of funk/dirt, must, Irn Bru and jam. The taste is slick, oily, bitter - sweet, juicy fruits, toasted grain, wood earth, toffee and stewed apple with a slick and warming finish. Medium+ body and fine carbonation. Pretty good fun.

Sweet grain and bread malts, caramel, dark molasses. Hazy brown, small, creamy, beige head. Light sweet. More sweet grain and caramel malts, molasses, soft carbonation, full bodied. Nice Barley Wine, rich and complex. Bottle at Chriso & Ruth’s pre-GBBF shindig, Kensal Rise.

Honey aftertaste is the distinguishing feature from the BW mold, some lemon, bread, surprisingly carbonated for a BW (it’s even got some head!), the alco is nonetheless poorly hidden
