on tap on the premises. dark burgundy pour with a small light beige cap offering some retention and lacing. smoked maple, demerara, unfermented cheap molasses, plain drip coffee, carbonized red berries, minerals. moderate carbonation, light body - particularly oily; sweet almost ashy-earthy finish. bottom tier sweet porter.

On tap at brewpub. A clearish reddish brown-black with a resilient beige head. Flavor is chocolate, coffee, dark fruits, roast. Finish is chocolate, coffee, molasses. Dry cookies. Medium body, average carbonation.

My Bottom Line:
Molasses and caramelized cereals fail to whip up an interesting finish while remaining approachable and pleasant for those with a sweet tooth.

Further Personal Perceptions:
-A veil of foam covers the hazy brown.
-The flavor profile is overly simple.
-Malts are that well defined, contrary to their very good Caltor and Duplessis.
-This is not as polished as their other Stouts. Then again, the historic factor might be what they are aiming for here?

On tap at the brewpub.

(Rating #4548)

In short: A sweet molasses porter that tastes like a sweet maple syrup porter. Just ok
How: Tap at brewpub
The look: Cloudy muddy brown body topped by a small beige head
In long: The nose is all about sweetness, this beer smells heavy with maple syrup and other “brown sweet stuff”. Taste is also dominated by maple syrup and table syrup (which is strange since this described as a “molasses porter”). Obvisouly very sweet with also some notes of brown bread and light notes of molasses. Rich, sweet and filling but not to the point of being cloying. Probably my least favorite beer I’ve had from this brewpub Probably my least favorite of the beer I had at La Fabrique. Not an easy one to drink. To prevent alcohol addiction Quebec brewpubs are required to insert beers like this in their line-up.
