on tap on the premises. unclear dark brown pour with a nice rather dark beige head offering some retention and lacing. dark chocolate, tannic if not ashy as well, raisin sweetness, lots of umami notes, dusty conifers, spicy citrus, obvious cascadian input, woodsy caramel, fruity yeast action. moderate carbonation, light body - oily; semi-sweet yet assertive grassy-spicy-piney finish. a black ipa that is very green and umami-driven. johnnnniee (4405) - Bedford, New Hampshire, USA - JUL 10, 2015

(Rating #5964) VT (2527) - Quebec City, Quebec, CANADA - DEC 4, 2014
On tap at brewpub. A black ale with a resilient beige head. Aroma is roast and pineapples! Flavor is dark chocolate, coffee, roast, and some fruits. Finish is dark coffee, grapefruit and...pineapple. Lingering bitterness and fruitiness. Light to medium body, somewhat viscous mouthfeel, average carbonation. MartinT (10037) - Montreal, Quebec, CANADA - SEP 29, 2014
My Bottom Line:
Glouglouburp (6103) - Montreal, Quebec, CANADA - NOV 5, 2013
This super leafy Black IPA does benefit from citrusy edges but suffers from excessive trub and is borderline astringent.
Further Personal Perceptions:
-A veil of foam laces around the brownish black.
-This tastes like the dry-hopping went a tad overboard, making the hops feel oversteeped, flabby, and excessively lengthy. Or maybe our pint was from the bottom of the keg?
-Drinkability is low.
-Malts are covered in hops and offer mostly sugary support.
On tap at the brewpub.
In short: A well malted (nutty cake) and well hopped (fruity-piney) black IPA. Solid.
How: Tap at brewpub.
The look: Very dark mahogany body topped by a medium beige head with good retention and leaving lots of lacings on the glass.
In long: Nose is very hoppy, fruity and piney with burnt cake and roasted almonds. In mouth the beer has a substantial body for a 5.6% beer and it is supported by an adequate medium carbonation. Taste offers well sculpted expressive cereals, medium roasted, flavors of toasted brownies cake, toasted almonds, some cocoa powder, a hefty amount of fruity and piney hops. Bitterness of medium intensity. Nice take on the style, a very satisfying Black IPA. Métisse translates to “Mixed-race” because a Black IPA is the bastard child of two different kinds of beer, and imho there is a thin line between a clever beer name and a racist beer name, and if this thin line is black then this line is gross.
