Sigmund (6977) - Tau, NORWAY - DEC 3, 2011
330 ml mock stoneware bottle, Cardinal Pub & Bar, Stavanger. ABV is 9%. The glass fills completely by a white foamy head, and the golden beer below appears only slowly. Strong and "typically Belgian" sweetish aroma with yeasty, spicy and fruity notes. The flavour is also spicy, medium sweet and "typically Belgian", with distinct hops in the finish. Warming mouthfeel. A few of La Guillotine, and you might lose your head completely ...

9% ABV. Hazy orange pour with a big, fine pored white head, which diminishes slowly to a filmy one. Fruity-spicy smell. Light sharp start followed by a fruity, peach and mandarin tasted aroma escorted by honey, citrusses, notes of coriander and distinct herbs with alcohol in the background, mouthfeels slick and moderate sticky. It finishes long, sweetbitter and dry with tart citrusses, spices and alcohol, which leaves a tart-spicy aftertaste behind. Great and well balanced one.

from tap @ Brugs beertje, orange/yellow colour with foamy/stable white head. Nice presentation with the painted blood on the glass. Smell: yeasty. Taste: yeast, nice herbs, alcohol and some hoppy notes. Nice but has nothing special I cant find in other ones.

ALLOVATE (2958) - Perth, AUSTRALIA - DEC 22, 2011
Third attempt at this one, the first being late 2005 and left unimpressed then.
Out the bottle at just on cool and into a snifter. Hazy pour before being joined by a bad case of the floaties that unavoidably plop into the glass. Average two finger crown is mostly lasting but manages a fine Belgian lace. The carbonation fine and streaming, the floaties eddy but dont settle. Yeasty nose, mildly tannic and predominately candyish with hints of guava and pear, and medicinal alcohol. There is a hot, spicy, vodka-like kick to it. Esters of supple pale fruit, guava, canteloupe, pear drops. Quite sweet, the body full and gluggy not helped by the chunky yeast, the carbonation spritzy giving it some height. The finish is creamy, chunky with bitter underripe fruit, alcohol warmth and noticeable tannins. This is similar to the notes from 2005. Is it three unlucky batches here in Oz, I think not! (33cL, 9.0% ABV, BBE 04/14, Thirsty Camel, Butler)

UPDATED: JUL 21, 2012 Sampled at the Beers2012 Expo in Tel Aviv. Pours reddish and hazy with some foam. Sweet aroma, sweet taste. Full body and very balanced. Notes were taken after quite a few drinks, to be re-rated. 8/4/8/4/17=4.1 Jan 2012 Re-rate July 2012: Hazy to clear golden amber with a frothy white head. Clear, delicate fruit and alcohol aroma, then bread and grain. Tastes bitter, fruity, a little bread, a little more alcoholic than I remembered.
