Tasting at Matt’s; batch #3
Dark brown color. Earthy malts, some ass, coffee, some cheese. Smooth mouthfeel, strong roasted malt and coffee flavor without exceeding with the burnt character. Too earthy.

750ml bottle @ Matt’s. Pours a cloudy dark brown colour with a small tan head. Nose is nice medley of roasted malt with some coffee. Flavour is similar as well, a mix of coffee, roasted malt, and dark cocoa. Interesting but there is a hint of green pepper in the background.

Bottle - Cold press strong espresso and chocolate. Deep brown with a very light brown head. Dark espresso notes, cocoa and a long finish.

750mL bottle, pours a cloudy dark brown with a reddish tinge and a small beige head. Aroma brings out medium roasted malt, with a touch of coffee character in there. Flavour follows through, with dark cocoa, some roast, and light green pepper. Moderately roasty, with a finish of green pepper and cocoa. Not bad.

Bottled, from Capsules Bière L’Axe du Malt, Québec City. Dark brown, small head. Coffee, chocolate and caramel up front. Mid sweet with medium body and well rounded mouthfeel. Rich on coffee. Mild and mellow. Low-medium bitterness.

on tap at griendel, qc. unclear dark brown pour with a very creamy moka head offering good retention and lacing. medium roasted coffee grains, underlying charred caramel and red fruits, demerara rock sugars in iced coffee, dirt. moderate carbonation, light body - oily; semi-sweet and potent coffee-earthy finish. particularly nice rich sweetish coffee porter.

(Rating #7250)

Stoned99 (1684) - St-Jean-sur-Richelieu, Quebec, CANADA - JUN 25, 2016
750ml bottle from Marché Village. Thanks Jo for buying. Aroma: nutty, figs, coffee. A bit of soya sauce and a hint of cocoa peel and that not that pleasant grassy hops feeling. App: dark brown / burgundy, medium mocha head, great lacing. Oh and that look of the bottle is awesome. Taste and palate: medium body, medium sweetness, grassy, dry roasty light bitter finish. Overall: Was hoping to have something more towards coffee. Well it does smell coffee but for some reason thought it would be even more present. Maybe that cocoa peel smell that I don’t appreciate much. Aroma reminds me of that SSS from Auval. Not something I appreciate that much. Anyway, good porter but won’t buy again.
