COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
This unique seasonal product is the world’s only Trappist bock ale. Brewed exclusively with natural ingredients, this ale post-ferments slightly in its bottle. It has a deep red colour, an intensely rich taste, and a malty aroma. Aromatic hop varieties and types of burnt malt render this ale its delicate bitterness that blends surprisingly well with its slightly sweet undertone.

La Trappe Bock has 7% ABV.

Sunday 20 Oct 2012 sees me sat outside in bright sunlight: Valkenburg, Holland. I walk passed a board advertising La Trappe Bockbier on tap, I put myself into reverse and have two lovely glasses of this and watch the world go by. Deep brown/ruby red in body colour: the sunlight dancing on the ruby tints. Large cream coloured head when brought to my table: soon turns into a wispy covering and collar (what a pity). Malts and yeast esters vie for your smell senses with the malts easily winning. Add a hand full of crushed dark, red berries and a spoon full of all spice and you’ve got the aroma. The malts rule the taste as well, malty molasses giving the beer a rich, smooth feel and flavour. Most likely the best Bock I had while on the trip. Another bar was having a Bock Fest and had around 8 on tap, so I managed to try a few, as you do!

Bottle, 33cl. Pours a clear, ruby brown colour with a magnificent, lacey tan head. Aroma is strong in dry fruits, caramel and a suggesitive roasted character. Taste is nice and heavy, lots of spicy, fruty sensations, perhaps some coffee? Finish is heavily bitter, superb.

30 cl. bottle @ home, bought @ Albert Heijn. Brown with a big tan head. Aroma of the typical La Trappe yeast with hops and some roasted malts. After the first sip some coffee and chocolate is added to the palette. This beer is fairly bitter which continues in the aftertaste. Ofcourse a la Trappe beer is good but this bok is far above the rest of the bokbeer field.

33cl. Bottle. Poors hazy brown with cream tinted head. Aroma malts, bread, caramel, dark fruits, honey. Taste spicy bitter, a caramel, honey sweet. Little roast. Mouth-feel creamy. Awesome bockbeer, loads of taste and fantastic aroma.

Fine long lasting head with a brown hue. Hazy dark copper-brown color. Surprising smell, quite fresh and spicy, yet hints of honey and malts. Tastes of serious roast malts: bitter and sour, yet softened due to the added wheat. Fit for autumn indeed. Full body with moderate carbonation. Long and bitter yet not unpleasant finish.
