Named after brother Isidorus, Koningshoeven Abbey’s first brewer. Brewed to mark the occasion of the Trappist brewery’s 125th anniversary in 2009, Isid’or was so well received that it earned itself a permanent place in La Trappe’s line-up. Unfiltered, slightly sweet amber ale with a hint of caramel, which continues to ferment after bottling and has a rich, slightly bitter flavour, and a fruity aftertaste. Wheat & barley malts, Perle hop.

Enjoyed: Poured from a bottle into a trappist glass. Appearance: Hazy brownish-red/amber colour, with small lively foam/carbonation (like a little spring from the centre). Aroma: Banana, pear… Palate: Medium body, moderate carbonation with many small nibbling bubbles. Taste: Sweet, with banana and pear, granny-smith apple aftertaste with light bitterness. Overall impression: Enjoyable, tasty.

Pours a beautiful hazy chestnut brown with a creamy, fluffy head. The aroma leaps out, unhindered by the cold of my refrigerator. Full of brown sugar, Isid’or clearly takes after the Belgian tradition with a comforting bouquet of mellow, spicy aromas. La Trappe’s house blend of dried spice cake fruits brings its usual brightness: white raisins, apricots, pears. The rich, sticky banana bread undertone gives this beer a balanced smell that is delicious yet subtle. On the tongue, the flavor succumbs to an unexpectedly bitter trio of alcohol, burnt malts and sharp hops. Paired with a creamy, smelly cow cheese this pungency would be quite welcome, but on it’s own it overpowers the otherwise delicious undertones of ripe banana, clove and brown sugar that echo the nose. The aftertaste leaves a shard of oaky vanilla, orange peel and the warming sensation of brandy.

Deep amber with a huge beige head. Aroma of dried fruits, dates, caramel, spice, yeast, citrus. Sweetish taste immsdiately backed up by carbonation sourness and mild grapefruitty bitterness. High carbonation, medium body, smooth yet crispy. Wonderful, dangerous

Deep red colour. Burnt caramel nose. Lots of burnt Christmas cake flavour but not too over powering or heavy. A great Belgium. Rated by BrewTom

Flesje thuis gedronken. Roodbruin helder bier met matig schuim. Beetje fruitig aroma. Smaak is een beetje zoet en caramelachtig. Nasmaak is iets bitter.
