COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Named after brother Isidorus, Koningshoeven Abbey’s first brewer. Brewed to mark the occasion of the Trappist brewery’s 125th anniversary in 2009, Isid’or was so well received that it earned itself a permanent place in La Trappe’s line-up. Unfiltered, slightly sweet amber ale with a hint of caramel, which continues to ferment after bottling and has a rich, slightly bitter flavour, and a fruity aftertaste. Wheat & barley malts, Perle hop.

33cl bottle in hotel room - saddest ever tasting of a "Trappist" beer... in a paper cup. Yeast and banana come through in the aroma. Malty banana flavour, toffee, smooth to medium bodied. Nothing real fancy but very well done.

750 ml bottle from LCBO. Pours a cloudy orange/amber with good-sized lasting off-white head. Aroma is fruity and yeasty. Flavour quite fruity (apple, pear) with some light yeasty spiciness. Medium plus body. Solid.

Poured a deep caramel color ale, huge foamy head with great retention and some good lacing. Aroma: Belgian caramel malt with some sweet caramel notes and light fruity ester. Taste: a mix between some Belgian caramel malt with some good notes of fruity ester and a balanced level of sweetness. Body is about average with good carbonation and no apparent alcohol. Well brewed with nice level of complexity and great level of drinkability. One of the better trappist beers i have tried

750ml bottle. Served in a trappist glass. Appearance: Transparent golden brown, minimal carbonation, small fine beige head. Aroma: caramel, malt vanilla. Good, but nothing super complex. Palate: thick bodied, fizzy, creamy, slightly oily, slightly dry finish. Taste: Fairly savoury. No bitterness. Not bad, but not as complex as I’d hoped for.

Amber color with nice off white head. Aroma is fresh, citrus, grapefruit, floral... quite refreshing. Let;s taste it.... it’s smooth, really nice body you can feel the alcohol but in a good way, warming you, also it tastes fruity and sweet. Nice brew, quite nice.

Bottle at home (Noel Cuvelier) 23/10/12. Pours a slightly obscured dark amber with a big foamy off white head that soon collapses to the edges and forms a pond on top of the glass. Nose comprises Belgian yeast, toffee, dark fruits, banoffee pie, cloves and a little other spices. Tastes of toffee, sweet sugars, candied fruits, spice. Medium bodied with light prickly carbonation leading to a sweet finish with a touch of booze.

UPDATED: OCT 22, 2012 Off-white fizzy head with very good lacing. Intense, fresh aroma. Light body, fizzi carbonation, a little bit spicy. Long bitter finish. More hoppy taste that the usual for a belgian beer.

Bottle picked up at the Dundas Ontario LCBO. Pours a cloudy orangy copper colour, with a fast dissapating head. Nose is spicy, caramel and a touch of malt. Tastes sweet, bitter, malty and a dry bitter. Good stuff.
