Bottle shared by Maakun at Gekke Geit, massive thanks! Impossible cork. Dark brown with no head. Sweet syruppy raisans, roasted chestnut, port, PX, dark fudge, oak. Big sweet and moderate bitter. Full body with little carbonation. Oily slick and rich. No off tastes.

Maakun (5357) - The Hague, NETHERLANDS - MAY 30, 2017
Bottle shared. Slight hazy dark amber with just a few bubbles. Strong vanilla and oak, bourbon, brandy, dark sherry, lots of raisins, light port, light milk chocolate, deep sweet malts, roasted chestnuts. Quite sweet, under medium bitter and a light tart kick. Full bodied with no carbonation. Really good.

Vighals (3901) - Sørumsand, NORWAY - MAR 4, 2017
Tåkete mørk brun med minimalt beige skum. Lukter svisker, trevirke, eik og vanilje. Fyldig. Lett søtlighet, tørket frukt, dadler, svisker og vanilje. Lite bitterhet. Kjenner alkoholvarmen. Fatlagringen er tydelig, eik og vaniljen er framtredende. Middels lang.

Leighton (21075) - London, Greater London, ENGLAND - FEB 26, 2017
Bottle shared in London - big thanks to Rene! Pours mostly clear amber-gold with a creamy, tan head. Big butterscotch aroma, berries, toast, plums. Medium to heavy sweet flavour, with rich bready malts, fruitcake, more plums, toffee, butterscotch, minimal alcohol notes. Medium to full bodied, lightly chewy, with fine carbonation. Lightly warming in the finish, with lots more ripe plum, brown bread, fruitcake, vanilla, butterscotch, ripe berries. Extremely drinkable for its heft. Almost no alcohol presence. Awesome stuff.

Bottle. Light murky mahogany liquid with small light tan head. Aroma of oak, port wine, raisins, caramel, raw sugar and light licorice. Taste is medium sweet and light bitter with notes of red wine, raw sugar, raisins and oak. Full bodied with low carbonation. Quite nice!

MelvinKalksma (1506) - NETHERLANDS - JAN 29, 2017

Heavy aroma of malts, caramel, Belgian yeast, wood, vanilla, red fruit and red wine.

Turbid/opaque red/dark brown beer with heavy yeast and with no/a slight beige head.

Heavy sweet with malts, caramel, Belgian yeast, wood, vanilla, red fruit and red wine.

This beer is intense, complex and balanced. Super sweet with loads of red fruit and even some wine shining through. The appearance misses a head, but looks great nonetheless.

Wixie (571) - BELGIUM - JAN 15, 2017

Full Body, soft carbonation, slick mouthfeel. tastes nutty, marzipan, some vinous notes, also rather sweet, light breadish, some sherry, some alcohol, clorophyl. finishes lightly bitter and dry with vinous notes, dark fruits and some clorophyl / green herbal notes. decent, but overall not totally convincing. rather heavy.

wrlangin (224) - Brisbane, AUSTRALIA - NOV 18, 2016
375 ml bottle from slowbeer.com.au. Pours hazy brown with absolutely no head. Aroma is boozy and some slight sweetness. No carbonation left. The base quad was a staple of mine for about 18 months and I always enjoyed it. The barrel-aging compliments it well and adds a nice dimension. Pretty good, but I was disappointed by the beer being totally flat. That seems to be the trend on the Dutch barrel-aged beers as De Molen and Emelisse are the same in that regard. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone
