red, brown, cloudy, tan foam, vanilla, soy sauce, full body, oily feel, average carbonation, long finish, heavy cloying sweetness, medium bitterness, magdalar (516) - Zurich, SWITZERLAND - MAY 13, 2012
Bottle at Fermentoren. Pours a hazy brown with an offwhite head. Smells of caramel, brown sugar, white wine, spices. Tastes of a heavy sweetness, mild tart, some acidity, mild bitter. Medium bodied, soft carbonation, syrupy texture. The initial taste was much stronger on the white wine, esp compared to the dregs of #4 I had just finished. Mouthfeel is still quite white wine.
Geiserich (4521) - Linz, AUSTRIA - SEP 28, 2012
Bottle: Off-white creamy head, amber hazy color. Oaky aroma, notes of grapes, smoke, whiskey, brandy, caramel, sugar. Flavor has also a lot of whiskey/brandy notes, barrels, sugar, wine. Dyr, astringent finish. Nice. Abio (1869) - BERMUDA - SEP 8, 2013
Wood at the taste for sure, slightly spiced and boozed. Slightly aged bottle, this will affect it a bit probably. Dark amber couloured brew that looks like brown in the glass. A nice, mostly sweet, beer, not bad at all. Christos (5791) - Arnhem, NETHERLANDS - AUG 16, 2014
(La Trappe Quad Oak Aged Batch #5)
Bottle 375ml, corked and caged, poured into a tulip glass at home. ABV 10%
Appearance is almost the same with the other batches I had, dark amber to brown colour on the body, slightly hazy. This one doesn’t have a head at all, some bubbles that are forming during the pour disappear straight away, of course no lacing to be expected.
Aroma has plenty of wine, lots of vanilla, wood, little bit of caramel, ripe red fruits, amazing.
Boozy taste on the first sip, toffee and caramel, then the fruity notes are kicking in. The alcohol is always present during the drinking. Again wood and fantastic vanilla notes.
Thin body with low carbonation.
Very good, if it was thicker and with better carbonation, that would be a masterpiece.

Comes in a 375ml bottle with a cork and cage. The cork was plastic and I had some difficulty getting it out! Pours a murky brown with little head. The oak is quite present in the aroma, along with a little of the white wine, plus vanilla and brown sugar. There’s a good level of carbonation and a slightly creamy texture to it. The taste is of caramel, crisp white wine (perhaps Sauvignon Blanc), spices. Quite a unique beer. chrisv10 (17466) - DENMARK - AUG 20, 2011
