COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
BATCH 7 is blended in June 2011 and is the first batch (of two) that has matured in old whiskey barrels. These barrels come from different whiskey distilleries such as Bowmore, Tamdhu, Strathspey and Laphroaig (Johnstons). The aroma’s of the whiskeys have an obvious impact on the final flavor. This flavor is remarkable and clearly different from those of previous batches. Peat and burnt are more present, while wood and wood tannins are less obvious to spot. But the warming effect of the full, robust flavor the whiskey barrels passed on to our already beautiful Quadrupel, makes this batch maybe even the most tasty brewed to date.

Hazy red brown, small beige head. Aroma and taste are very woody, with whiskey and ash. But on the dry side and body might have been fuller. Still a great beer, my kind of I’d say :-)

Smokey... Whiskey... Great thick mouthfeel it’s got body nailed. The alcohol is hidden nicely, but still reminds you that it’s there.

Tyskevdb (20) - , NETHERLANDS - MAY 16, 2012
375 ml bottle bought 6 months ago at the monastery. Smells like smokey whisky, caramal, raisin, rum and some hop. There is little carbonation. The beer tastes a bit smokey, caramel, liquorice, figs and rum. I can clearly taste the finish on whisky barrels. Although a strong beer, I don’t notice the alcohol. Good, but not excellent.
