4.2 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 17/20
On tap in "La casa the la cerveza" in Madrid. Hazy brown colour with a nice creamy head. Aroma consists of caramel, some tropical fruits maybe, some candy sugar and belgiam yeast. Flavour also brings along oak, wood and a more presant caramel taste. It has good a bit sharp mouthfeel at first, but then it smoothens up soft, suiting carbonation. The alcohol is not notable in the aroma nor the flavour. I can sense some bitterness in the aftertaste, really good. Overall a top scoring beer in my opinion.
Wow, this was simply a phenomenal beer, a supremely well-executed and decadent quad. Special thanks to my wife for supplying this anniversary gift! Upon opening, this one at first foamed up and out the bottle, fortunately didn't lose too much, and it was a reminder of the authentic bottle conditioning. Poured into my personal favorite Spencer Trappist chalice, this beer indeed featured a truly "stunning" golden amber color with a vibrant plume of lacing supporting a thick creamy white foamy head, flawless appearance! A bit of debris from the yeast, but gives it a more organic look and feel. Aroma is yeasty candied sugar and some slightly toasted or burnt caramel malt, with some brown sugar and booze. Flavor is a gourmet palate of yeasty esters, vanilla, caramel, cognac, and raisin. Interestingly the esters are less bubblegummy than other Belgians and more of a candied sugar accent. Exceptionally creamy texture, medium bodied, and smooth, although the booziness is impossible to hide. My first brew from the La Trappe monastery, will be sure to seek out their other varieties! This 750 ml bottle came from Spec’s in Houston and brought home for a try many months after purchase. Wonder how I waited so long. Quads generally do not lay around here unopened. The cork is popped on the front porch on a pleasant Friday afternoon. Tilting the bottle into my Rochefort Trappistes glass it comes out a lighter than expected ruby-amber body followed by an egg-brown Head. Through the glass I see a very active carbonation replenishing the top. I take a smell. Plum, peach, yeast, a bit floral. A nice intro. A drink now, geez, worth the wait. Currant, black plum, biscuit, strawberry jam. An early bitterness that continues. Really, really fine. A fuller favor than the color indicates but sorta creamy with that great foam. Definitely will see this one again. DraftWhisperer38 () - - NOV 4, 2017

Clear amber color with light beige foam. Aroma has belgian sugar and yeast esters with some dried fruit notes. Taste starts sweet and malty with sugar and booze notes but gets more astringent and quite bitter on the finish with some earthy/woody notes and alcohol warmth. Medium to full body, medium carbonation. Not really my thing, too boozy and it lacks some flavor complexity.
