Draft at the brewpub. Crystal clear dark amber with dense and creamy tan head and light streaky lace. Nutty, toasty and brown sugary nose. All those notes come back for the mid-palate, on top of a light, clean, easy-drinking body and soft carb. Big leafy and earthy hop notes erupt at the finish and hold with a cling. This is a clean, clearly defined, and fresh-tasting beer. Not sure if it was a recipe tweak and a brand new keg or what, but clearly a better beer than what’s been served under this handle in the past. Bradrcr (806) - Renton, Washington, USA - JUN 29, 2008
6/28/08 On draught at the Brewpub. Aroma is malt and very roasty, almost munich, and has a light PNW hop balance. Appearance is hazy brown with a moderate tan head and lacing. Flavor is roast sweet malt forward with low bittering and very light sourness. Mouthfeel is medium bodied with a medium-high carb texture that give a slight tartness. Overall, good and complex and very easy drinking for a hot day. drismyhero (815) - Tacoma, Washington, USA - SEP 25, 2003
This beer looks great - a great latte-esque frothy head bobs around on a perfect mahogony body, leaving rings on every surface it touches. The aroma is a bit disappointing: the malt is more reminiscent of plastic or tin than sweet graininess or sugar. The flavor keeps a bit of the tinniness but (thankfully) a really remarkable caramel/toffee comes through eventually. The toffee is particularily strong, enough so there is no mistaking it amongst the other flavors. This is a perfect example of a two-sided beer. Totally split personality, clear as black and white. The metalic flavor invades nearly every aspect of the beer, zinging through the flavor, aroma, and palate; but amidst all of that is just a superb flavor and buttery mouthfeel. With time and improved balance this could really be good. DavidP (1748) - Milwaukee, Wisconsin, USA - OCT 3, 2005
GABF ’05. Clear amber body. Strong sweet rum alogn with stewed banana and medium malts in the aroma. The flavor carries the same barrel maltiness along with bitter leafy hops and roasted black malt.

Draught at the brewpub. Clear nut brown. Perfumy, roasty malt aroma. Dryish with rounded mouthfeel and solid body. Well hopped with notes of citrus and herbal spices. Well balanced. I enjoyed it. BlackDonald (1126) - Gulf Shores, Alabama, USA - JUL 17, 2008
This is one of their better beers. Has some rich chewy maltiness, with some chocolate and cocoa flavors, followed by some caramel and a bit of bitter hoppiness coming through towards the finish. jbrus (4990) - Delft, NETHERLANDS - MAY 7, 2009

Draught at the brewery
Clear medium brown color. Some tobacco, maple, and some simple wood and nut notes. Dry palate. Smells like maple syrup, very sweet, with peanuts as well. Drinkable, palatable, but simple. Some spices and chocolate in the finish are redeeming.
