On tap at LaConner, pours a hazy dark mahogany with a small tan head. Nose is quite earthy and dirty, with manure, chocolate and toasted malt. Flavour is rather nasty really, with manure, dirt, light cocoa and toasted malt. Something definitely off here. Dark brown color, almost black; mild roasted malt aroma, quite buttery. Soft mouthfeel; the roasted malt and dark caramel flavor is very nice, with hints of coffee, the diacetyl seems less than in the aroma, and it’s correctly bitter.
Minor flaw, but it’s nice.
This was a draft pour at the Brewpub in LaConner. Color was dark brown with a tan head and lots of rich lacing. Nose is roasted malts with some chocolate. Medium body with a smooth texture in the mouth. The flavor is roasted malts with a touch of sourness. Bitterness in the finish. Roasted, licorice and chocolate aroma. Cloudy, opaque, beige head, good lace. Very sweet, malty, light bitter, lightly burnt (not roasted) charcoal. Soft and flat.

Roasted chocolate nose, sweet on the palate and very simple, pure and easy to drink. Nothing near complex, almost slightly thin with typical flavors associated with porters. 6/28/08 On draught at the Brewpub. Aroma is very chocolatey with an even sweet/roast balance. Appearance is dark brown with a well maintained cream colored head and good lacing. Flavor is quite sour/bitter with black malt, but not past the stout level. There’s some dark fruit and decent sweetness, but very low hop bittering. Mouthfeel is full bodied with a moderate carb carb texture. Overall, complex and interesting, but not easy drinking.
