COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Part of our Ingenuity Series of Barrel-aged Inventions, Dérailleur®” bière-de-garde (“beer for keeping”) is a deep golden ale brewed to celebrate the global passion for cycling, and named after a bicycle’s gear-changing mechanism invented by a French cycling enthusiast in 1905. This ale is malty and rustic, with a spicy yeast character. Subtle flavors of French oak were derived from ageing in Rhône varietal Mourvèdre wine barrels over one year. This release is a special blend of vintages; the older barrels provide mild acidity and the yearling contributes the oak and rustic, bready malt character. The resulting blend is an excellent example of a truly French farmhouse-style cellar creation.

At Cask Days 2014. Grape, apple tart, oak, funk, touch of pepper, dry finish. Nice mellow biere de garde.

On tap at Ladyface. Pours with a large white head that leaves good lace over a hazed gold to copper body. Aroma is dry, grainy, tannic, dry wine, light pepper. Taste is caramel, bread, light vinous and tannic wood. Lightly herbal. Great biere de garde. Lively bubbles, dry.

Sampled at City Tavern with brewmaster Dave sitting next to me. Kinda cool. Pours a bright orange. Crisp with a lingering flavor. Nice light hoppy notes along with a touch of vanilla.

>> There are probably many versions of this beer all collapsed into this entry given their rarity/rarity of ratebeerians in general. This version was 7.1%, 100% Mourvedre Barrel Aged. Low haze orange pour. Nose is excellent buttery oak barrel, fresh bourbon more than red wine. Taste is clean, mild alcohol stickiness, candied orange, oak, paper. Tannic, pepper finish. Interesting as always from Ladyface but with the characteristic harsh palate that seems to be a universal problem with their beers.

(En dégustation au Stone Sour Fest 2015): Vin et malts fruités dans lesquels on aurait déposé un bouquet de fines herbes contenant persil, thym et menthe sauvage.

A beautiful clear copper with a honey aroma and a certain dankness. The taste is tart, wheaty, honey and tart citrus. More approachable than Trebuchet but just as good.

GABF 2010. Very good Biere de Garde. spice, pot pourri like purfuminess. Dash of sweet maltiness n this golden colored ale. Maybe a tad too sweet but still quite good in my book

Tap@ Ladyface. Clear copper color with ivory head. Spicy wine barrel, earthy malt, dry grassy aromas. Medium bodied with soft carbonation. Lightly tart, spicy wine barrel flavors with aged caramel, herbal, dry spices, dusty pale malts____drying finish----good.

Bomber from Ladyface. Nose of thin stone fruit, gently tart, with a bit of oak barrel. Deep amber color, creamy white head. Lightly tart fruit, somewhat acidic, a bit of citrus, cream cheese, and a thin tart finish. Thin-medium body. Smooth and pleasant.
