Bittersweet chocolate and fruity plum aromas explode off the top of this jet black ale with a rich brown head. Complex roasted malts, sweet biscuit and Northwest hops make this a full-bodied brew. Drinkable enough to have more than one, but be careful, it will rock your cradle.
2011: 9.8% ABV.
2012: 10.2% ABV with some smoked malt.

Draft sample at the restaurant. Pours like a nice espresso: black with a nice brown head and oily lacing. Fairly light aroma of milk chocolate. Great flavor of coffee, chocolate and dark malt that leaves a boozy, sweet, cocoa aftertaste. Great beer; would be fantastic with a bolder aroma. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Pour on tap at Boneyard, dark brownish black pour with tan head, aroma brought notes of dark chocolate, coffee, dark fruits, red fruit into some oak, slight smoky notes with a hint of leather, roasted malt. Taste was a mix of dark cocoa, coffee and roast into a bit of spice, smoke comes through into a bit of leathery tobacco, finishing with some sweet fruit.

Dark black pour at Barrelhouse 101 in Ventura, CA. Tan head that goes away pretty quickly. Really nice nose on this, dark fruit, deep malt, a hint of smoke. Nice mouthfeel, not as heavy as the looks might predict. Roasted malt, bitter coffee, some heat on the finish. A little sticky on the backend of the mouthfeel.

Short: An RIS that my wife approves of despite its medium body

Origin: Ladyface Size: 4oz taster Price: $2
Long: Great espresso lacing on a deep, reddish black body. Nose is soft earthy hops, pretty muted with flashes of cherry dark chocolate. Taste is quite good with some amaretto and cherry cordial dark chocolate but there is also a savory smoke character in the background. Not too dry of a finish as Im crossing my fingers waiting for the Ladyface house yeast strain to drain this puppy down to 1.00 final gravity. Really nice, though predictably drier imperial stout with medium rather than full body.
Flaws: Slighly over attenuated
Skill Level: Talented apprentice
