Bottle thanks to thirdeye11. Pours with a small tan head over a brown body. Aroma of leather, chocolate, lactose and nutshells. Taste is bitter roasted malt, lactose, roasted nutshells, some smoke. Light bubbles. riversideAK (6261) - Shoreline, Washington, USA - MAR 31, 2010
Roasted malts, charred notes, and oatmeal/oat notes that add a touch of soft sweetness. Pours dark brown with little head and no lace. First flavors are roast and char followed by light chocolate and oat notes, light balancing sweetness gives way to char and earthy hop notes on the finish. Very low almost non existent carbonation - no hiss when popped. Smooth silky body with just a bit too much char in the finish to accurately reflect style imo. blutt59 (6565) - Dallas, Texas, USA - MAR 11, 2010

Sample at Lafayette. Darkest brown color with a thin tan head. Malty and roasty aroma with some chocolatey sweetness. Creamy malt flavor with some sweet chocolate before a dry roasty finish.

[Bottle] Pours black with no head and nearly no bubbles. Aroma is pretty decent, lots of smoke, some roasted malts, and a touch of oats. Flavor kind of drops off, though. Watery and flat, mostly harsh roasty malts and plenty of smoke. There’s really no sweetness to be found. There’s also some light band-aid and detergent in there as well. Bummer, I generally really enjoy oatmeal stouts. kassner (1666) - Wexford, Pennsylvania, USA - NOV 14, 2009
Pretty nice ruby color, good smoke and some peat, Modest carbonation but just as good as a Guiness patrick767 (4063) - fort wayne, Indiana, USA - NOV 1, 2009
bottle - Pours near black with no head. That made me wonder if this bottle was a bad one, but fortunately it was fine. The aroma is of dark roast malt with coffee notes. The flavor is of roast malt, oatmeal, and coffee and finishes with some good bitterness from the roast and hops. It’s medium bodied and quite enjoyable overall. awiseman01 (469) - Indianapolis, Indiana, USA - AUG 31, 2009
Bottle from VBS. Pours Pours opaque black with slight brown edge and minimal quickly disappearing light tan head. Nose is dark malt, coffee, some chocolate and a little red meat. Flavor is well watered down nose, most of the nose has disappeared, what’s mainly left is black coffee and dark malt/chocolate. Much thinner and more watery than I was expecting and hoping. Still very decent sipper, smooth and easy on the palate. A slight sweet side and very faint hop background. The thinness is just too distracting IMHO. StFun (567) - Indiana, USA - JAN 5, 2009
Growler thanks to Bobby91w. Very, very, nice, although maybe more of an oatmeal porter than stout, like CharlesDarwin said. Pours a nice brown with a red hue. Nice aroma: oats, cinnamon, cookie dough, and chocolate. Flavor is much the same, tastes a bit like an oatmeal cookie with hints of roasted barley and maybe even a touch of coffee. Nice local brew that I was glad I got to try.
