UPDATED: MAY 22, 2008 Review #2: Growler at 2008 DLD, my number hardly vary from the original review years ago. The mouth feel is thinner than before and overall not quite as good. -1 P, -1 Overall. kaser (6382) - Chicago, Illinois, USA - JAN 16, 2015
Review #1 (3.7) Very dark hue with amber and reddish highlights. A nice creamy tan head that produced above average lace. The aroma is sweet with lots of mocha, caramel, oats, and mild smoky notes. Also detected some floral hops, Kona like coffee aromatics, and zesty yeast esters as well. The taste starts malty with good mocha and noticeable oats characteristics. Additional undertones of traditional bitterness, smoke, pears, and coffee. The finish is lingering bitter and a touch lactic. The mouth feel is very smooth and soft, medium-bodied. This is one excellent sweet stout, hits on all notes. A touch more floral and bittering hops, also bit more body then it would be near world-class.
Black with very creamy off white head. Not much aroma. Creamy texture. Taste is milky and sweet. Slight cocoa. Very enjoyable. Had this poured from draft as part of a sampler at Lafayette Brewing Co.

Pours dark brown with a tan head. Smells of earth, tea, oats. Tastes of chocolate, molasses, some oatmeal. thedm (6319) - Fort Wayne, Indiana, USA - MAR 29, 2004
This draft brew from the brewery poured a small head of fine to medium sized light brown colored bubbles that left behind a good lacing. The body was an opaque black color with no visible carbonation. The aroma was that of mild coffee and dark malts. The mouth feel was initially smooth and mellow with a mild lingering dark malt bite in the aftertaste. The flavor contained notes of bread coffee and dark malts. A very tasty brew indeed. Probably the best beer there in my humble opinion. riversideAK (6265) - Shoreline, Washington, USA - MAR 31, 2010
Roasted malts, charred notes, and oatmeal/oat notes that add a touch of soft sweetness. Pours dark brown with little head and no lace. First flavors are roast and char followed by light chocolate and oat notes, light balancing sweetness gives way to char and earthy hop notes on the finish. Very low almost non existent carbonation - no hiss when popped. Smooth silky body with just a bit too much char in the finish to accurately reflect style imo. thirdeye11 (6162) - Dallas, Texas, USA - JUN 6, 2010
(12oz bottle) clear ruby/medium brown khaki bubbles. Nose of meat, oats, cocoa and dark chocolate. Taste of dark chocolate, caramel, cream and oats. Very smooth palate was the best feature of this one. Mora2000 (6158) - McKinney, Texas, USA - JUN 6, 2010
Thanks to thirdeye11 for sharing this bottle.
The beer pours a dark brown color with a very small tan head. The aroma is pretty heavy on the coffee but also has some chocolate and roasted malt notes. The flavor is coffee, chocolate, roasted malt and tobacco. Medium-thick, slightly creamy mouthfeel and low carbonation.
