Morey (46) - Erie, Pennsylvania, USA - APR 12, 2012
INFORMATION: 12oz bottle with no freshness date. I know that Lagunitas usually puts a code on the bottle from which you can determine what day of the year that it was brewed, but there is no such code here. This bottle is from this Springís batch, so itís pretty fresh. 64 IBUs....7.5% ABV.

APPEARANCE: Pours a pale yellow-orange color with a good two fingers worth of off-white colored head floating on top. Plenty of carbonation bubbles visible within the glass. Pretty good clarity for a wheat beer. Impressive lacing sticking to the inside of the glass with each sip.

NOSE: Orange, lemon, mango, juicy fruit gum, musk melon! This beer is fruiTy with a capital T! Behind the wall of citrus lies subtle hints of this being a wheat beer.

TASTE: Good light wheat flavor up front, but itís short lived. Fruity flavors come rushing in just as the aroma suggest. Thereís a touch of hop bitterness towards the middle, but this beer is big on the citrus, and not so much on the bitterness. The flavor of the wheat shows itself again towards the back end. Soft fruity finish begs for you to take another sip.

MOUTHFEEL: Medium bodied with a soft carbonation.

OVERALL: The best of the best where wheat beers are concerned.

Moreyís Bottom Line: The first time that I had this, I was floored. Iíve had it several times since, and nothingís changed. If you see this, by all means....grab a six pack!

ccex (1267) - Chicago, Illinois, USA - APR 22, 2017
12 oz bottle pours an almost clear golden/orange color decent white head that lingers and leaves lacing. Aroma has all the usual suspects of an IPA (Citrus and tropical fruits and pine resin, some caramel malts) plus enough Wheat for Woody Allen. Taste is initially sweet and fruity, but the long finish is dry and bitter. Body is medium with average carbonation and a sticky mouthfeel This one is a tad stronger than most IPAs, and has the wheat flavor to set it apart. It is another winner from Lagunitas, but ommipresent around Chicago, so that I now take if for granted. If an old friend from New England brought me the same beer to me in a bottle that said Trillium or Hill Farmstead I would have thanked him profusely.

Drank 08-03-17 in Cafe Faber after the AIESEC reintegration thing. Nice fresh IPA, but not more than that. Citrus taste, fruity, not too hoppy.

A really tasty beer overall and easy to drink without being overly hoppy. I love Lagunitas and this might be one of my favorites of theirs.

Keg at Craft Beer Rising. A clear golden colour with a thin white head. Aroma of grapefruit, orange, a little bubblegum, candyfloss, subtle wheat and floral hops. Taste of grapefruit, orange, wheat, some toasted malts, a hint of candyfloss and slight floral hops. Medium bodied and soft carbonation. A dryish, wheaty, floral hop bitterness in the finish. Not as hoppy and bitter has first imagined, very wheaty. Sweet in places but with a clean bitterness throughout. Itís well made but fails to hit the mark for me.

UPDATED: FEB 23, 2017 Wasnít expecting Sumpiní to edge out Megawheat, but thereís sumpiní to be said (HA!) for its clean hoppy approachability, its easygoing simplicity. Hops and wheat ale, smooth and infinitely drinkable, orange marmalade on top of yeast and grass and toast. Straightforward yet delicious.
