On the Brick Store Pub cellared sampler. Dark chestnut pour. Plum and toffee and brown sugar candy. Sweet. Medium full mouthfeel. Nice barleywine. Palme (4824) - Bergen, NORWAY - MAY 11, 2014
On tap @ Rattle N Hum NYC as "Barrel aged Gnarleywine". Not much of a head on this one. The little foam that was present at first has quickly disappeared. The beer itself is deep dark brown one, almost red in a way. On the nose it has lots of lovely alcohol! Really bourbon infected with both vanilla and booze. Damn, this smells nice. Strong, sticky and really intense. Yeah, this is one of those really good beers. It has a strong sticky mouthfeel and a soft prickling carbonation level. Lots of strong sticky fruity flavors. Vanilla and wood, booze with dates, figs and nuts. The bourbon has completely taken over this one! Not to much, but still it’s nearing a bourbon monster. Really mouthdrying nut-zesty finish and aftertaste in this with lots of sweet brown sugar. Well, a flavor bomb like I haven’t tastes in quite a while. Really nice! 11.06.2013 ads135 (5031) - Omaha, Nebraska, USA - JAN 20, 2014
A very nice barleywine. Pours very dark with a thick brown head. Lots of plum, some chocolate and vanilla. Dogbrick (13789) - Columbus, Ohio, USA - JUN 16, 2013
Sample at the brewpub. The beer pours black with a thin beige head that diminishes steadily. Partial rings of lacing on the glass. Aroma of bourbon, dark chocolate and malt. Full-bodied with a bourbon character and flavors of oak, caramel malt and a bit of dark fruit. The finish is boozy with an oaky, malty aftertaste. Good overall. illidurit (2458) - San Francisco, California, USA - JUN 7, 2013
On tap at the brewpub. Pours a brownish red with a small tan head. Aroma is rich sweet spirit notes, boozy, woody and slightly tart. Flavor is awesome, chocolate-covered caramel, See’s candies, vanilla, honey, milkshakes. Real good.

I had this beer at the SLO Xtreme beerfest. It pours a cloudy dark sorghum color with a foamy taupe/tan head. It demonstrates excellent head retention. Chocolate syrup aroma. Viscous, with chocolate syrup up front that yields to hints of coconut. My friend even called it piña coloda. This beer is a lot of fun. Not something one would imbibe all evening, but a shifter after a steak and potato dinner would hit the spot. MadRobin (2988) - Silver Spring, Maryland, USA - JUL 10, 2012

Hazy caramel brown in color... Aroma of bourbon and caramel sweetness... Flavor is rich in caramel, sugar, candied dates and bourbon and oak... Didn’t think the gnarly wine could get any better... BVery (11361) - Plymouth, Minnesota, USA - MAY 12, 2012
UPDATED: DEC 29, 2013 Tap at Lagunitas. Murky brown pour with a white ring head. Bourbon, wood, vanilla, and toffee on the nose. Fuller palate. Taste is rich bourbon, toffee, and wood. Killer. beernbourbon (1600) - Glendale, Arizona, USA - MAY 2, 2012
Tap at brewpub. Pour is murky brown with only a whisper of a head. Aroma and flavor loaded with toffee malt, brown sugar, vanilla, bourbon, coconut, and faint dried fruit. Mega good stuff. So deep dark and smooth. Drinks incredibly easy.
