On tap available at the brewery only. This version was 12% + ABV and poured deep, dark coffee color with nice head and lasting lace. This is the port version of beer, big, thick Australian dessert-like dried-fruit leather layered atop coffee, cocoa, melted black licorice flavors. Try this as a nightcap with sticky toffee pudding. 750ml bottle cold, from a shaker glass. Aroma of cappuccino, cream, very light roasted malt. 1/2 inch rocky tan head over extremely dark red tinted liquid, consistent ring of lacing. Taste cappuccino, burnt malt, slight bitter coffee. Medium palate, starts off with high carbonation mellows out towards the end. Slightly above average stout. On tap at the Black Squirrel in DC. Served in a taster glass. Pours a very dark brown with a thin light mocha head and some spots of lacing. The nose carries a heavy dose of bourbon on top of a bit of chocolate. A bit of roast and vanilla in the background. Flavor is similarly dominated by bourbon, making this a bit one dimensional, yet still nice. Body is medium-full with low-average carbonation and a bit of booze through the finish. A fine enough barrel-aged beer, but not something I’d seek out again.

Sampled at the First Inaugural Raleigh Rare and Vintage Beer Festival. Hazy brown pour with ring of tan head. One whiff of the aroma and it is very evident that this thing is barrel aged. Sweet and creamy, big roast and bourbon notes that overpower the coffee notes, but still is a well balanced beer. KapitiCritique (379) - Kansas City, Missouri, USA - FEB 17, 2012
Big nose of chocolate, coffee, very slight bourbon and maybe vanilla and coconut. Not sure. Very complex. Spent ten minutes just smelling it; deep dark brown, big caramel coloured head and sticky lacing; sweet and not cloying, rounded so there are subtle hints of acid and salt, noticeably bitter but not hoppy; Rich and full bodied, well carbonated without being fizzy, sticky and a slightly creamy texture, short finish; Big impression. badnewsbeers (2312) - Grand Rapids, Michigan, USA - FEB 6, 2012

On tap at the brewpub. Dark brown almost black in color with a smell of vanilla and chocolate. Tasted exactly liked it smelled. Wonderful brew from a great brewery.
