Pours deep muddy brown with no head. Nice bready and malty nose and flavor with light bourbon, vanilla and oak. Smooth on the palate. Lagunitasfan (1323) - San Diego, California, USA - AUG 29, 2009
On tap at San Diego Brewing co. OMFG this is good. Hand pumped. Caramel orange brown in the glass with no head, and lingering lace. Nose is rich sweet. Caramel, vanilla, brown sugar, and booze. Not overpowering. Taste is beautiful. Rich, smooth, and warmly sweet. Thick in the mouth. Vanilla, clove, brown sugar, and the rich alcohol sweetness of bourbon. I had two pints, but probably should have stopped at one. I don’t believe this one is only 10%abv. It put me on my ass. commonshawn (1270) - Minnesota, USA - NOV 16, 2013
Tap. Amber. Very hoppy and piney aroma. Malty taste at the beginning, then alcohol sweet with hops. Interesting sweet to bitter flavor, fresh and powerful. padrefan98 (854) - (San Diego) Santee, California, USA - SEP 5, 2009
On cask at SDBC. Excellent bourbon aromas and flavor. More bourbon then most, but not over the top. Wood, vanilla, bourbon, maple. Good stuff. Great night of beers at San Diego Brewing Company. robgibbens (432) - Gaithersburg, Maryland, USA - FEB 15, 2014
Pint is golden in color with a silky smooth foam. Instant hop aroma, almost like smelling fresh hops! Flavor is same, but not overly bitter. This is a mellow quaff with all the hop aroma and flavor!

11/30/13 pint at TGL with Dan and Nancy.
Poured a copper brown with a light foamy head that left light lacing throughout the drink.
Aroma was sweetness I smelled it as it was placed in front of me. Also some nuttiness and a slight hop smell also. The taste was also dominated by sweetness with slight boozyness. I'd like to try this again at home so I can get a better feel for it.

Clear golden brown /amber. Caramel nose. On the fence of sweet and dry. Nice smooth hops bang out first followed n a caramel malt profile. Light airy mouthfeel. hopheadsbrew (142) - Illinois, USA - NOV 20, 2012
Copper color. Caramel sweet nose. Slight citrus and hops on the nose. Malty start with some raisin notes. A nice little twang in the flavor. Some hop bitterness and alcohol burn. mayday035 (120) - san jose, California, USA - JAN 30, 2011
On tap at the Lagunitas tasting room. Same basics as the normal brown shugga. less clarity, a little darker, and less head than the original. Nose is sweeter, oaky, and loses the hops note. Taste mimics the smell - it’s sweeter through and through, and the bourbon sweetness and oak takes away the nice bitterness of the original. The moderately bitter finish in the original is muted by the bourbon and additional alcohol. I did not like this as much as the original - i think it’s lost some balance. johnluvsbeer (120) - Arizona, USA - FEB 26, 2012
Pours a light copper color with a light head and seemingly endless bubbles. The smell is malty, with a hint of nut and some fruit as well (although nothing distinct). The taste is big and warm. Mostly the best parts of a brown ale with lots of candied sugars, and the alcohol is nowhere to be found. You can tell this beer is made with care.
