Bottle from trade with Ty. Pours a light brown with little to no head. The taste is mostly a sweet smooth malt, some hops, citrus, cinnamon and apples, and some brown sugar. The first bottle I tried was far too hot. It reminded me of an overcooked doppelbock. Subsequent bottles were quite a bit better, with huge but clean sweetness and a bit less alcohol. I did not notice the aggressive hopping that others report. Instead, I found the hops simply to be playing a balancing role, and playing that role rather well.

From bottle : Pours a clear dark copper color, with a small foamy off-white head that dies to a nice ring and lacing. Has a nose of nice sweet spices’ and some brown sugar. Taste is the best for a BW that i have had, probably cause there isnt as high of a alcohol content. The taste is sweet, and has some hops to it, also spicy. UPDATED: JAN 21, 2011 bottle. definitely the sweetest barley wine I’ve had. pours a deep red with no head. aromas of brown sugar - it’s in there for sure. I was hoping for a stronger aroma though. hoppy, medium bodied, spicy on the palate.... very good. wonderful sweet and sugary aftertaste. UPDATED: DEC 17, 2007 Well this was interesting. It is definetly exactly what it says it is, so I can’t claim to be taken unexpected. Its just not my thing - way way way too sweet. The sweetness actually hits right away, and it finishes dry which I was mystified by. Also, the 9.9% is very well hidden, by the taste I could have sworn it was under 5. UPDATED: SEP 21, 2009 Beautiful pour with ruddy brown hue that is almost transparent. The head is full and foamy, tight with bubbles that dissipate to substantial lacing. The nose is sweet and bready and a touch of citrus hop. The flavor is subtly sweet, but not too much, with malt and a bit of a sting from the alcohol. Clean finish without any bitterness. Very easy drinking.
