Great color and aroma. Nice balance of bitter and sweet. They should make this an all year beer, as besides it beautiful red color, it does not scream seasonal.

12 oz bottle on 15th Jan 2018, into a Lowenbrau (Munchen) at my daughters in California while on holiday. Amber/bronze body, clear and clean, frothy off-white head. Hoppy aroma (piney and earthy) leading to a semi-bitter taste, no where near as sweet as I expected looking at the label and beer name suggested. Not really a Barley Wine in my eyes, but a decent enough beer all the same. ttoadee (1665) - Austin, Texas, USA - DEC 29, 2017
Copper pour, thin off white head, nice ring of lace. Nose is rum, spice, alcohol and malt. Middle is sweet malt , caramel, alcohol. Finish is high octane , silky malt. smaynard6000 (1268) - Apopka, Florida, USA - DEC 23, 2017

.Appearance: Amber/Copper, big full light brown head. Great lacing.
.Aroma: Floral, hop forward. Piney. Some citrus. Caramel malt, brown sugar.
.Taste: Upfront sweetness. Malty, brown sugar, caramel. Nice bitterness. Great balance of sweet malt and that piney, earthy hop bitterness. Pine on the aftertaste.
.Mouthfeel: Nice full body, thick. Dry.

UPDATED: NOV 28, 2017 Snifter at Trappe Tavern, Trappe, PA. Pours a rich, dark, maple syrup-amber. Small head, decent lacing. Piny, resiny. Nice and hoppy, decent maltyness. You can definitely feel the ABV in this one. donandres (687) - Makati, PHILIPPINES - NOV 24, 2017

Bottle 12 ounce poured to wine glass
Sight: Light amber, small head, almost no lacing
Smell: hoppy aroma, slight boozy scent not overpowering
Taste: Medium bitterness, sweet, bold and complex
Mouth feel: very good, ice follow through, long finish, sticky, strong bitter aftertaste
Overall: Excellent beer, specially with the price. Definitely something to look forward to.

I got this bottle from russpowell. Thanks Russ!
It pours from 12oz bottle a hazy amber colour with a slight tinge of orange and a 1 finger head of off-white foam. Lots of lacing and the head retention is quite good. It's a fine looking brew in the glass.
Taking a few whiffs, I get a lot of sweet caramel and sugar with an almost equal amount of citrus hops. Nice. I'm also getting a touch of fruitiness.
The taste is just as impressive. Super sweet notes of caramel and brown sugar that seem to be heading to beyond what I like but....there's that citrus doing a fine balancing act and bringing the tastes back in order. Very tasty. The finish has just the slightest bitterness to it and that works fine for me.
The body is on the light side and the carbonation is medium light. The alcohol is *very* well hidden and because of that, the contents of my glass are disappearing at an alarming rate. Oh well. That's a problem I'll deal with and I give a salute to Lagunitas for brewing a fine American Strong Ale. I'd drink this again, no problem. pappabear (23) - Granbury, Texas, USA - NOV 17, 2017
UPDATED: NOV 17, 2017 Pours clear Golden/Amber (more amber) with 1 1/2 finger white head that has good lacing. Smell of light hops and caramelized brown sugar. Taste is slightly sweet, very smooth, with a slightly bitter finish. Another good beer from Lagunitas. meccahh69lol (366) - New Haven, Connecticut, USA - OCT 30, 2017
OK, here's another Lagunitas offering and it is fine but not one of their very best. It pours an amber brown ruby thing with a thin head and has a brisk pungent head of tootsie pop and malty malts. It tastes of sugar syrup, heavy doses of malt, some strident hops, and the odd whiff of the supernatural. It goes down surprisingly easy for a 10% abv b-wine all things considered. Good for a night of female Bloodsport remakes and couch cuddles with boo boo on the eve of her bday.
