An aborted batch of their Old Gnarleywine ended up tasting nearly as good as that they were hoping for, so they bottled it. God bless capitalism. OG 1.100 IBU 51.1

Tap at Js. Pours a deep, rich brown with a finger of foam that dissipates quickly. Light brown sugar nose with citrus and pine on the nose. Light caramel and pine hops. Clean and crisp, with a nice sweet sorghum character on the palate. Light bodied. Easy drinking and the booze is well hidden.

A fairly clear deep amber body with a small, well lasting off-white head. Nose deep and malty with sherry, caramel and raisins. Taste is sweet with a nice balancing bitterness and a warm alcoholic burn. Soft xarbonation and full, easy drinking palate. Very good BW with nice drinkability and complex aromas.

Pours like a brown ale. Easy to drink and smooth. On the sweeter side. Released once a year.

On tap at Bangers. This is a big complex beer, lots of flavours kick through in this bad boy, biscuit, citrus, some dried fruit. Definitely not for those who like a bland beer.

An older bottle at home with the wife, Caressa, and Apollo. Bought this one in Rockaway and took it with me to Chi, so its been in the fridge for about 2.5 years. Crystal clear amber pour. The nose is brown sugar, pine, burnt orange. Super smooth palate. Sweet and sugary caramelized malt, hints of whiskey, orange, vanilla. The second pour into my snifter introduces a plethora of chunky yeast sediment. A bit of old, dusty hops, and some funk on the finish. This really aged nicely.

Pours clear, medium copper, brief fizzy head, slight residual lacing. Aroma - complex - in no particular order - sweet, dried figs, caramel, resiny hops, citrus pith. Taste - compared to other barley wines, less fruit and more hops. Drier on the palate then typical. First impression was a large hop presence - like a DIPA. This mellowed fairly quickly and the more subtle sweet notes and dries fruit started to emerge. There is a solid malt structure way in the background, a more noticeable hop framework, and then an array of more subtle tastes in the foreground.

Bottle from Total Wine & More, St Petersburg. Orange/brown, not too much visible carbonation and a small ring of white head. Caramel, resin, clove, orange and a bit of Robusta coffee in the aroma. The initial sweet taste turns very bitter almost immediately. Long bitter finish bordering on astringent, but theres always the sweetness of the malt underlying the flavour a bit. Biscuit and tangerine peel in the aftertaste. Interesting and certainly enjoyable.

Pours clear red-amber with a 2-finger bone-colored head. Strong aroma of molasses, maybe a touch of char too. Full body, lightly syrupy. Long finish with a light booziness. Flavor of molasses, with a light note of piney hops that cuts the sweetness just a bit.
