Lagunitas, Seattle. Thin lace, clear copper brown. Smooth, malty base with a sweet and distinct clean oak over top. Vanilla overtones on a bitter grain base. Gorgeous fresh oak character throughout. Bitter hop finish, per Lagunitas style. Nice treatment of a solid ale. Adds up well.

Malty aroma. Not super strong. Pours copper and super clear with a nice white head that lasts a while. Flavor is big and malty. Has a tiny bit of something that feels nutty to me. Sweet like. I’m imagining some cara and crystal hops. Has some hop flavor as well, but secondary. Not very bitter, in fact for lagunitas I’d expect a bit more. Thick body.

Has a nice strong aroma. Pretty flavorful. Not my favorite style but worth drinking.

Rich Amber ale - can’t believe I haven’t rated this one before?? Delicious. Hoppy and malty sweet. Some apple and toffee notes. Nice.

Average beer overall. Provides a nice experience for the alcohol content, and certainly has the Lagunitas taste. Adjust your rating accordingly if you really enjoy Lagunitas.

seymour (2045) - Maplewood, Missouri, USA - MAR 31, 2013
Tasted from 12oz brown bottle into a shaker glass. It poured a clear, deep amber colour with long-lasting beige foam and lace. "Very heavy oak character" is right; so much so that it overpowered everything else. Other than the hard-woodsy, tanniny, vaguely vanilla-like essence, it seemed a fairly bland amber ale, with no special malt, hops, or yeast characteristics to speak of. Certainly drinkable, but not delicious.

durhambeer (2500) - Durham, North Carolina, USA - JUN 8, 2012
Odd one from Tyler’s in Durham. Wondering if they poured me the right freaking beer... waiter was terrible. Did taste like that hoppy-yet-still-a-bit-sweet Lagunitas trademark. Deep golden/light orange with a creamy white head and nice lacing. Nose of lots of sticky hops... oak is very mild despite the description. Tastes similar; orange, resin, mild oak. Not bad.

UPDATED: APR 28, 2012 It doesn’t smell too attractive, the appearance is great. It has a strong taste compared to similar "amber ales" (ie. george killians and longboard). It tastes more powerful than a typical copper ale and I favorite it over the two listed.
