Reminds me of a black IPA spliced spliced with a dark bitter. Aroma of pine, resin and burnt toast. The flavor is similar. A little citrus/fruit jam comes through as well, but in my view the burnt toast flavor overshadows the rest of what is going on. Well executed, but, as is the case with almost every black IPA I’ve tried, I don’t think it’s my style.
Middle of the road black ipa. Roastie... Sweet...a little hop nose... Repeatable? Maybe splitting a small glass or plan for a long evening... Ok

On tap at BLB pours a dark brown/black with a medium tan head. Aroma has an odd caramel candy sweetness, reminds me of a dentists office, with some roasted malts. Really like this one on tap in MN. Hops are high like you’d expect from Lagunitas. Good turn on the black IPA.

Draft at Gold Nugget. Fresh, sweet roasted malt aroma. Fully opaque body with a thin off white head. First sip was borderline offensive. Having had a Sierra encase pale ale beforehand there was no doubt some necessary palate adjustment. A lot of stuff going on. Strong hop profile with an equally strong black roasted malt flavor. Pours dark brown, basically black, with a bit of light tan head. Aroma is citrusy with some pine notes, and a light toast-like background. Taste is hop forward, some citrus and herbal flavors, and more of that toast. It’s not roasty like coffee or black patent, but more like, well, lightly toasted bread. Draft at Toad in the Hole. Deep brown with fine ecru foam. Punchy kumquat and grassy aromas, plus a bizarre mashup of herbal volatiles and candied fruit, like smashed Froot Loops as the aggregate with an Underberg cement. Flavor largely is as expected given aroma descriptors above. The surprise is the palate, with a strong carbonic bite and very clean ferment profile. Tap at brewery- Pour is black with a off white head.. Nose is nice roasty malt, caramel, piney hops, sweetness, tropical fruits..Taste is nice hops, sweetness, tropical fruits, roasty, caramel, faint chocolate.
