This beer smelled very hoppy yet the taste was mostly a thick yet smooth malt. Nice heavy palate with a sizeable head. Hints of caramel and slightly boozy. ronaldtheriot (1995) - Laplace, Louisiana, USA - DEC 7, 2014
Lagunitas Imperial Red Ale has a thin, off-white head, a semi-clear, rust-red appearance, bubble streams, lots of white, cottony sediment, and some lace curtain left behind. The aroma is of pink grapefruit, medium-roasted malts, and bread crust. Taste is of those elements, with sweetness and a touch of yeast. Mouthfeel is light to medium, and Lagunitas Imperial Red Ale finishes semi-dry and quite refreshing. No alcohol pick-up in the flavor. Poured from 1pint 6fl oz bottle. Clear, amber brown with full off-white-to-beige head. Grassy and piney hops with caramel and toffee malt backing. Medium body. dslam (104) - surrey, British Columbia, CANADA - DEC 5, 2014
Beautiful red color, with plenty of head. Looks really good in a glass, with the white head fueled by the dancing bubbles making their way up. Good aroma.
First sip resulted in a white mustache and a pleasant warm sensation. It is extremely smooth and the carbonation clears the pallet quickly. I normally consider this as a bad thing, but for this beer it just begs me to take another sip. BeerFanDan17 (1121) - Brunswick, Maine, USA - DEC 3, 2014
A really extraordinary red ale. Tons of flavor from caramel and honey to buttered toast and butterscotch. Perfect hop-malt balance. Pours a rich golden with a medium head.

Bottle from Systembolaget. Aroma is stray with some hops. Pours amber with a medium white head. Taste is heavy hops and fruit. Palate is fittingly stray and sticky. Overall a really pleasant beer which reminds much of a DIPA. Syzzer (736) - Oregon, USA - NOV 30, 2014
Thanksgiving 11-27-14 bomber, very hoppy character. Excellent tan creamy head. Dark orange cloudy color. 8.4 in category, lean toward hops; some maltiness. 9.1 bd, 7.5 kevmar, 8.7 dad Sine90 (74) - Stockholm, SWEDEN - NOV 30, 2014
red, hazy, frothy, light body, slick feel, average carbonation, caramel, bread, bubbleflubber (2235) - Swannanoa, North Carolina, USA - NOV 29, 2014
This pours an amber-walnut into the glass, with a thick soapy eggshell head that leaves window-wash lacing. The nose is of fresh pine needles and pine resin. A sweet, malty backbone with citrus overtones is balanced nicely by a spruce-pine hop bitter finish. Integration, substance and complexity are key here, combined with a semi-active, full-bodied palate with a resinous mouthfeel. I love the nature presence of fresh pine and spruce needles without having to masquerade as an IPA. Very well composed, and a great imperial red. Pours from bomber a copper/ruby with substantial off-white head. Aroma of rich caramelly malt, with lots of floral and citrus hops bursting through. Flavour of herbalness, grassy, hoppy - a bit of malty grain and a swelling hop bitterness is cut but a sudden surge of chewy sweet malt, bringing with it a wonderful finish of strawberries and cherries with a hint of caramel. Fantastic beer!!
