COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
It’s a dry-hopped California Common with a massive malt character, rounded out by a bitter balance from some experimental hops from the Yakima Valley, this beer will leave you saying ‘I’ll be bock!’ He awoke from the time transfer naked, damp, dizzy, disoriented, and alone, except for the bottle of some auburn ale he still clutched in his sweating hand. He looked to the right and then to the left for some kind of shelter. In an instant, a towering figure cast a long shadow over him and he saw a single enormous hand extended his way. All of his synapses crackled as he recognized the massive and terrifying form as that of the Great Brewmaster. He heard a deep voice say, “Come with me if you want to live”. He now knew the bottle in his hand must contain the rare Lagunator and he also knew that he might survive to enjoy it. Experience all the terror and the drama…

Draft: Orange peel nose. Clear copper, thin head. Orange, marigold, caramel, dandelion. Medium body, easy carbonation. A bit hoppy for the style, but hey, it's Lagunitas.

22floz bottle, no date, $4, pint glass. A buttery gumball aroma escapes from this copper lager laden with a beige head. Sometimes Lagunitas surprises me with something that is more than there alright fare. Sure it has earthy hop flavor and bitterness as intended, but there is balance with light sweetness of biscuit maltiness. Tasty, and filling.

Draft to pint. Looks solid; a transparent copperish orange with off-white head. Smells like a malty lager alongside fruity and piney hops. Tastes like it smells with a bit of toast as well. Mouthfeel is medium-bodied and toasty. Solid.

This bottled brew from a bottle shop was served at a cool temperature and poured a small sized head of foamy fine to large sized tan colored bubbles that were mostly lasting and left behind a semi-transparent dark orange brown colored body and a good lacing. The smooth aroma was malty and mild vinous. The mouthfeel was tingly at the start and at the finish malt hop aftertaste. The nice flavor contained notes of vinous brown malt hops malt and bread dough.

Pour from a 22 oz bomber. Beautiful clear tawny brown brew with beige head, great head retention and lacing. Aroma is spicy and resinous - very much IPA style. Taste is sweet malt up front , caramel with woody notes; stays sweet through the finish with some underlying bitterness. the hops in in the nose never shows up in the taste. Interesting brew - reminds me of a malty winter warmer.

Bomber from hayduke that we had together via facebook chat. Clearish amber brown with a beige head that leaves cool looking lacing. First sniff is of earthy and floral hops. Flavor is floral more than fruity. Some toast and earth. Sugar as well as brown sugar. It is smooth in the mouth and has only a little bitterness to it. A little alcohol is tasted and that is the only negative for me. I love the beginning of this beer but not so much to the finish. The alcohol took over. This would be so good with a much more moderate ABV. So how to rate it?

This was shared with Strykzone on Facebook Chat, he with his 22 oz bottle and me with mine. Poured copper/amber with a beige head. Nose is roasted malts and light fruit. Medium body and a very smooth mouthfeel. Flavor is roasted malts, the fruit, some earthiness. The finish is bitter but not overly so. Really flavorful and easy drinking. A solid beer. Reminds me a little of a doppelbock, but is in its own way unique.

bottle. coppery amber with one finger head. i wasn't really sure what to expect with this one, but there's definitely more malt than i was expecting. there's caramel and cracker, but this leans towards the dry side. solid bitterness. california commons are hard to find, especially ones as well done as this one.

Toasty caramel and biscuit. Not overly sweet. Middle of the road doppelbock.

shigadeyo (3796) - Cincinnati, Ohio, USA - OCT 6, 2017
10/06/2017 (22 fl oz bottle): Loads of caramel malts and citrus candy hops in the aroma; really beautiful, rich, deep honey, clean complexion, large and lasting head of ivory-colored foam and fantastic lacing; malty and rich, sweet and bitter, caramel and citrus, honey and toffee, great PINE hoppiness as well, strong but not alcoholic, trademark hoppy Lagunitas flavor and bitterness twist on the style; medium to medium full body, very smooth and thick texture; really good hoppy bock, the bitterness complements and balances all of the maltiness well or it would be too sweet, really VERY good!
