Mondo Large Red Ale
From the first day of the first mash of the first recipe in the first space to this oasis 13 years on the road; We have worked hard to walk in the footsteps of our hero brewers. The Esteemed brewer of California’s best Pale Ale, the Noble Brewer of the planet’s only legal Steam Beer, and Oregon’s Rebel Brewer from Newport. Thirteen years down the road, we have found our own voice as brewers but our admiration for the Great Ones has not dimmed one bit. If we walked well down the hero’s path ourselves, perhaps we too have been an inspiration for others. Beer is a Bronze Age business and we feel honored to have left our footprints on its path into history, at the same time leaving our flavors on your buds. Thanks for your trust over the years and we hope you enjoy this specially brewed Hi-Gravity Auburn offering. Beer Speaks. People Mumble! O.G. 1.085 76.92 IBU

I agree with shigadeyo, so I have borrowed some of his words... Amber red in color with a clear complexion, a thick, foamy beige-colored head, a super fresh hoppy aroma that jumps out of the glass, and a strongly malty and hoppy flavor, this is one super big red ale! As mentioned, the aroma showcases a really fragrant hoppy (pine, resin, some citrus and grass) along with some toffee-like maltiness and dried peach fruitiness. The flavor delivers true to the aroma and is really nicely balanced between a resin and vague citrus hop flavor with a moderate level of bitterness and slightly roasted, heavy fruity, sweet caramel maltiness. More and more citrus (tangerine a sweet red grapefruit) and earthiness become evident with each passing sip and as the beer warms. This beer feels strong, but the flavor definitely supports it and the alcohol is extremely well-hidden. This beer has a medium-full body and is very smooth, even a bit mellow, and really easy to drink. This beer is a pleasure to drink. Another fine offering from one of my favorite breweries.

Clear dark amber pour with large off white head. Aroma of malts, hops, caramel, pine and faint fruits. Taste of roasted malts, caramel, hops, faint fruits and pine needles. Full bodied, medium carbonation, hoppy finish.

Draught, 8.8% at KØ17. Cardamon and fruit aroma. Clear brown colour. Good creamy off-white head. The flavour has a grassy hoppiness, creamy and sweetish. A bit earthy and dirty but tastes all right. Good warming alcohol in the finish.

Clear amber pour. Love the hop/malt balance. Sweet caramel and bitter, resinous pine.

DATE: July 31, 2017... OCCASION: toasting a Will’s last game/watching the Iron Pigs with Jeff/visiting Bob Sunday... GLASSWARE: Maudite snifter... dark brown amber body that builds creamy, bubbly head with arcs of lacing with strings of effervescence... the single-finger head sits staunchly atop... robust pine and caramel malts impugn the taste buds... berry, plum, fruity apple, subtle spiciness akin to rye, and low-key phenol make for a boozy, musty earthiness that is attractively thick nonetheless... sips a creaminess that warms like bourbon and provides a smokiness like scotch... at 8.8% ABV, the body is mellow, medium-bodied, and worth a slow sip... flirts with a barley wine’s profile, without the intense heat, but has enough hops to give the beer strength at the teeth... another quality product from Lagunitas, one that I willingly paid $2.10 for...

Restrained aroma in an amber pour. Big hop forward balance to start with big sweat malt body to match. Laid back bitter finish leaves one wanting another. One of the best RIPAs I’ve had - and has to be a benchmark of the style.

This is an old favorite from my old favorite brewery. It pours a reddish hue with a medium head. It has a malty spicy aroma. The flavor is a robust, round hop bitterness with a burnt caramel aftertaste. It is a very solid, early aughts style beer (as in it doesn’t taste like juice) that hides its 8.8ABV well. Good for a Thursday night feast of Popeyes and avoidance of the mysterious rotten trash smell that will now haunt our hallway till the morning.

Bottle - Pours amber with a smallish head. Bright citrus aroma...not expecting that with bready malt. Good mouthfeel and a lot going on, yet they work well together. Very enjoyable.

Superficial festival rating at DØE - Ølfestival København 2017. Amber body with a moderate sized tan head. Aroma is malty with caramel, pine and fruity hops, some grapefruit. Flavor is sweet malt, caramel, dry fruit, pine, grapefruit, good bitterness and some alcohol. Fine body and long lasting sweet and bitter aftertaste. Pretty solid stuff.
