golden pour. exceptional aroma...sweet citrus, pine, very nice. complex hoppy flavor but not too bitter. love the caramel malty backbone to this one. Lagunitas is quickly becoming one of my favorite brewers. mikehanneman (63) - Iowa, USA - JUL 22, 2011
I rate this IPA very high. Nice aroma, good appearance and the taste is different than any other IPA I have tried. Just an excellent IPA. The IBU is 72. I had a friend try it and he too thought they are putting more malt or something in the beer to give it a different, great taste.
One issue I have though. I called the brewery in Petaluma, CA to complain about the white stuff floating in the bottom. The beer was about 4 or 5 months old. The person I spoke to said the owner (he was reading it off something) claimed it was nothing other than protein and it was good for you. My son and I think that is a bunch of B S - this beer is 7.5% and after 120 to 150 days it should not exhibit white matter floating in the bottom of the bottle. It was kept in a closest in my basement.
So try this great IPA - but don’t let it sit around too long unless you want to drink some floating "protein". adrosson (148) - California, USA - JUL 9, 2012
I'm smelling pineapple and marmalade. Tasting some caramel, marmalade. Sweet with slight hoppy aftertaste.

Bottle pour with a solid head. Mild citrus aroma. Very smooth for a DIPA, not a lot of bite. Overall a very good beer. TravHimself (38) - mebane, North Carolina, USA - SEP 3, 2012
Poured into a pint glass ...the color on this beer is perfect a nice hazy orange/amber,lots of citrus on the nose very juicy grapefruit, oranges, mango and pineapple are all mixed in here ,nice 2 finger off white head with decent lacing, taste is actually sweet for a IIPA but is very refreshing with a heavy malt backbone to level out the hops up front and a nice bitter finish, a damn good brew...cheersl

Bottle. Pours a clear amber color with a moderately thick white head. Nice hoppy nose with some great malty and hoppy bitter flavors to it. A little thick, but a fun drink. zive808 (5) - Hawaii, USA - DEC 17, 2012 does not count
In bottle, crystal clear with half-pinky of bright white head and solid lacing. Nose is loaded with fresh tropical fruits, pineapple, mango, grapefruit, tangerine. Taste is sweet with malt at the front, and ends with sticky, resinous fruit aftertaste. Medium carbonation that leaves you wanting more. Overall an excellent DIPA, not on par with Pliny, but in terms of availability and price, an excellent beer.

Lately I can't get enough of this beautifully balanced and pleasingly flavored IIPA. I enjoy a Sumpin' Sumpin' Ale first, then a Maximus. Makes for a wonderfully hoppy evening. cancerhawk (22) - - MAR 17, 2013
Very smooth hoppy beer. Not overwhelming, but full flavored........................... FishBizkit (234) - Camp Hill, Pennsylvania, USA - APR 22, 2013
Pours gold with a skinny white head. Didnt last long and left a lasting lace. Nose is big citrus, slight honey, cereal. Palate is smooth, crisp bubbles. Starts sweet, and ends with a nice mellow bitter. Abv is well hidden. Very nice ipa.
