This is not the original Pale Ale as brewed in far away 1993 in the back of the Old House of Richards Building in West Marin hamlet of Forest Knolls right next to little Lagunitas. It is way better. Back then the beer tasted like broccoli and kerosene and the carbonation ate right through and drained your stomach into your gut...

Pours clear gold with a frothy white head. Nose of grapefruit, lemon, spicy pine, and caramel. Taste of grapefruit, earthy hops, pine, slight tropical fruit, and bread. Slightly resinous bitter finish. Medium bodied and smooth. An excellent pale with fresh bold hop character.

Aroma is full of fresh hop aroma, so much it dominates the aroma, but somewhat sweet. Color is pale but a bit orange like an IPA. Taste is also like fresh hop and sweet, complete with bitterness. Palate is frothy and bitter.

Bottle on Amtrak Train 27 - The Empire Builder ( from Binnys South Loop) - 04/11/12. Lightly hazed pale amber with a thin white head that clears to the edges and forms a pond. Pine at the fore of the nose, caramel malt, grapefruit, hops. Tastes of bitter grapefruit, pine resin, hops, mango, caramel malt. Medium bodied with soft carbonation leading to a bitter finish. Decent APA.

12oz bottle from a six pack that cost me $8.99 (not too bad). Bright orange color, super head, some lace. The smell is extra hoppy, mostly citrus. The flavor is a hopped up pale ale, citrus flavors and bitterness. This could almost be an IPA with the level of hoppiness going on. I really enjoyed this and might have to buy some more soon. Good job Lagunitas! Serving type: bottle Reviewed on: 08-14-2011 17:17:37

A solid pale ale with a bright taste of hops and a hint of sourness. A lovely light brown pour with a honey yellow tint. I get the feeling Ive tasted this type of beer from Lagunitas before, without much variation. Still an interesting beer though, and worth trying.

So this beers been around a while. And I see its from Lag so it will probably be over the top. Oh my, big dull hop olfactory blasting perfume. Looks like pale lager in many ways. You will not notice the carbonation but fortunately its there; mostly mouth coating resin. Strong peircing taste bud blast, grade across the surface of my tongue with a disc plow. Certainly in IPA territory fer sure buddy. Crude rude and shivering prude. Finish is long medical astringent wipe. On style for an IPA!

Bottled. Poured a light golden color with minimal head. Nose is citrusy, floral, little bit of pine. Initial taste is hoppy, with a bitter earthy finish. thin texture. Overall a very pleasant beer.
