This is not the original Pale Ale as brewed in far away 1993 in the back of the Old House of Richards Building in West Marin hamlet of Forest Knolls right next to little Lagunitas. It is way better. Back then the beer tasted like broccoli and kerosene and the carbonation ate right through and drained your stomach into your gut...

UDBeernut's rating

UDBeernut (2883) - Saint Johns, Florida, USA - FEB 26, 2012
On tap poured into a pint glass. A: light tan amber color with a foamy 2 finger head, gobs of head retention and lacing rings S: slight citrus hop aroma, light caramel T: grapefruit and slight orange molds well with a caramel malt base. Very nice M&d: medium mouth feel, well carbonated. Not drying like some pale ales. Very easy to drink. I think this beer would make a good beer for changing of seasons from hot to cool or visa versa.

Pours light gold with a thin white head. Aroma of pine, citrus and maybe apricot. Taste of grapefruit and herbs.

Pours clear golden with a modest head that quickly fades to a thin layer. Aroma is malty with citrus and some hops. Medium body, slick feel, average carbonation. Taste of grass, pine and hop resin with a bitter and quite dry finish. Maybe I just have a stuffy nose, but I’m missing some balance and fruityness(?).

Tap at the Ørsted Ølbar, Copenhagen. Poured a clear medium amber with a thin white head and some clingy lace. The aroma is malt, fruity citrus hop. The flavour is moderate bitter light sweet with a smooth watery melon tropical fruit, light hop bitter palate. Medium bodied with soft carbonation.

Clear, golden, medium head. A lot of resin and hops granulate, almost sulphuric notes in aroma. Dry, thus not much body to balance very resin bitter taste.

LLaurin (468) - Motala, SWEDEN - APR 1, 2017
Golden colour with small head and hoppy nose. Taste is hoppy and light fruity with some malts on the top. Palate is short but also with hops.

Nurmis (627) - Oulu, FINLAND - MAR 25, 2017
355ml bottle. Pours slightly hazy golden with white head. Really fruity, with at least citrus and mango. Nice bitter finish, one of the freshest and best APA’s I have tasted.

Ahh, my second Lagunitas rating in a row. For whatever reason, I pretty much feel like they can do no wrong and this beer is no exception. It pours a golden frothy macro-esque yellow that obscures how good the beer actually is, but it has a nice, smooth floral aroma that invites you to reconsider your first impression. The taste is a very smooth, drinkable piney hops sensation with a nice bright and dry/crisp finish. Definitely a very good APA and one of my favorites. Very sessionable. Good for listening to the new Obituary album at an extremely low volume because your creepy neighbor is a whiny baby and you already slammed the door in their face when they came down to complain earlier in the day and you don’t want to be too much of a dick.

Bottle from systembolaget. Pours a bronze like colour beer with a medium head. Fruity and hoppy with notes of passionfruit. Also some malty notes. Dry finish.
