3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
Reviewed 3/7/13. 12 oz bottle into a pint glass.
A: Pours a clear golden color. The head is a one finger white shade not too out of the ordinary for the style - lowish retention, nice creaminess, good bit of lacing on the glass.
S: It smells like a Lagunitas beer: grapefruity and herbal Simcoe hops abound. No, not nearly as much as Sucks, but still enough to wake the nostrils up. There’s also a lemony component here, too. As it sits in the glass, it actually becomes reasonably malty, with biscuit and bread notes.
T: An initial salvo of grapefruit, lemongrass, pine, and sourdough bread counterbalancing suggest this one’s actually full of Centennial. Maltiness surges upwards on the finish, with a faint lemon zest bitterness to it. This one is all about balance without any craziness - too often, I find a lot of Centennial-hopped beers to be somewhat harsh (Founders Centennial IPA being a good example), but this one is really pleasant.
M: Crisp and light, which is a feature I always love in pale ales. A mild syrupy linger accumulates after many sips; luckily it doesn’t weigh down the palate excessively. Carbonation is about what I expect.
O: Lost in Sucksamania is this rock-solid pale ale. Yes, it tastes like many other hoppy offerings from Lagunitas - but when they’re all really good-to-fantastic, who cares? A great ’lunch’ beer.
DATE: November 5, 2017... OCCASION: preparing for a short week of school with a promising "new" pale ale... GLASSWARE: Howard's Pub pint... cracks and sizzles out the bottle, creating a clear golden yellow body with an upward shower of carbonation... the white head is half-finger thick, bubbly and substantial... lemon zest and light grapefruit are first to be experienced.. bread malts are toasted and palpable... as a pale, this doesn't demand attention, but it definitely doesn't disappoint either... first sip is smooth, somewhat weighty and medium-bodied--textured to the throat, and lingering once there... dry and sharp... the malts actually show up first in the flavor profile, toasted and sweet--not at all what I expected! The secondary experience is lemon, earthy resin, grapefruit, and a tropical fruit that grows in its tangibility as the glass drains... in short, another hop-forward, drinker-friendly offering from Lagunitas... definitely a toned-down profile, thought at 6.2%, ABV, still worth one's attention... edgallow (4561) - nashville, Tennessee, USA - OCT 22, 2017

12 oz bottle from Trader Joe's. New Dogtown PA ives up to expectations for the local heavyweight in 'craft' brewing. Lagunitas didn't produce the leading IPA by chance, and this beer is another solid example of their skill. Nice balance between tart citrus/piney hops and light malt. My favorite pale ale will always be Sierra Nevada, but it's nice to sample a different take on the West Coast style every now and then. BillHick420 (471) - NORWAY - AUG 20, 2017

355 ml, bottle conditioned. Quite clear, light golden amber, thick white head, lively carbonation. Aroma is citrusy and fruity, tropical notes. Mouthfeel is sharp, bitter and dry, nicely carbonated. Taste is like a stronger version of the aroma, just delicious!! The best Lagunitas beer I’ve had so far, it’s even better than the Maximus. tightslice (1448) - Redwood City, California, USA - AUG 5, 2017
