3.7 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 4/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 20/20
On Tap at Bailey’s, about 60F, thin sheet of foam, solid lacing, full golden color with orange hues around the edges. Cloudy with a luminescence around the edges. Aroma of grapes, candi sugar, pear, a generally fleshy fruit aroma, sugary and somewhat like clean spring water. Definite alchohol in the nose, almost overpowering. Flavor is golden wheat, a light acidic bite, alcohol, sugar, strong malt. Mouthfeel is alcoholic, hot, lightly carbed, nearly fusel, very hot, alerts the brain to danger, exciting, arousing. Very similar to some Belgians, reminiscent of Tripel Carmelite. Variety of malts and raw grains. Sugary. Yeast by-products from hot ermentation. Combine flavor with hot finish, lasting sugary character, so sweet it lingers on the lips, finishes on tongue and lips, reeks of danger. All in all it is completely out of style. For the style it has a terrible aroma, wrong palate, wrong taste. But this is a sexy, risky beer, dangerous and exciting. Overall this is the shit.
Bottle from Whole Foods Market in Redwood City, CA. Aroma is bready, banana, fruity spices. Taste is grainy, spiced muffin, earthy, yeasty bits. A great American take on the style with thick / creamy spiced fruit and bread vibes. Updated label design adds style points. BeerRenter76 (1044) - Texas, USA - AUG 9, 2017
The body is gold with a touch of bronze, the cap is thin and soapy. The aroma is sweet and fruity with wheat undertones. The flavor is heavy on the wheat with faint fruit hints with a noticeable alcohol finish. hopdog (13102) - Lansdale, Pennsylvania, USA - JUL 24, 2017
Bottle - 2013 vintage. Poured a copperish color with an off white head. Bananas, fruits, some spice, and some breadiness. Vivek78 (12) - California, USA - JUL 2, 2017
Crisp and light with fruity flavor. Finish is slightly bitter with the right amount of lingering aftertaste. Alcohol content noticeable. Makes for a refreshing summer beer.

The wheat beer train left the station for me long ago. But this one is from Lagunitas and they rarely take a misstep so why not? I pour it from its 22oz bomber home into my New Belgium snifter. It shows a hazy yellow-orange body topped by a slightish white head but with persistent bubble action. The aroma is pretty alluring, butterscotch and apricot tones. The taste is complex with apple, peach, biscuit, grain, pine and definitely some hoppiness. Sweet followed by bitter. It is like a wheatie and an IPA combined. A swell summer afternoon on the patio brew.

When I think of Lagunitas, I don’t think of doppel weizens, so this was a surprise. Very nice, dark gold an aromatic. Banana and spice, honey, and sweet maltiness. Andrew196 (2015) - Katy, Texas, USA - JUN 10, 2017
Pours a cloudy marmalade, one finger, frothy white head, sticky. Aroma is big, stone fruit, caramel, rich florals... Very inviting. Malts really shine on this, caramel, peach, earth, spice...traces of woodiness, white grape and alcohol in the finish pretty good but a hair disappointing after a hot start. csaso (2337) - Missouri, USA - APR 30, 2017
Bottle - good size foamy head, dark gold color, sweet malty aroma and flavor with some mild fruity esters, smooth finish, easy drinking so watch out for the increased alcohol, very good overall

Aroma is wheat, fruit/lemon and big sugar/candy. The flavor is citrus/light lemon, wheat, fruit, slick texture and a mix of spicy and slightly nutty in the finish. VinegarStroke (448) - Napa, California, USA - APR 18, 2017
Bottle: Not my style. Lots of aroma and flavor but way too much banana ester and a palate that’s excessively sweet. Lacks the bitterness or acid to support it.
