3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
Bottle. Hazy copper with small white head dragging fine lace. Aroma is hoppy/fruity in a fresh soapy way. Smooth flavor with caramel and hoppy notes of melon, papaya and slight smoke notes???. Smooth mouth flavor and medium long bitter aftertaste. A pleasant beer - I do not see why it is called a cream ale though...
From Jul 2008
This pours a clear gold with a 2 finger head of foam. Good looking brew in my SAs glass.
The smell has a lot of maltiness to it with big notes of caramel and some bread but I also get some citrus. Nicely balanced nose; I hope that translates to a nicely balanced taste.
The taste has that caramel and bread, along with the citrus hop bitterness and is quite tasty. Cream Ale huh? I don't think I've tried a better example of this somewhat unique style but I have to say that the alcohol is pretty noticeable so I'll have to take that into account when it comes to drinkability. Otherwise, the body is nicely medium to medium full and the carbonation is also medium. It finishes on the caramel malt sweet side. Btw, head retention is quite good and there's some good lacing.
Overall, it's a good brew but not one that I could drink more than 1 of at a sitting. Nothing wrong with that. slowrunner77 (13203) - Reno, Nevada, USA - OCT 16, 2014
"i was looking forward this, but in the end, there was nothing about the flavor that stood out at all. creamy, with a thick mouthfeel, otherwise a mish-mash of malt and hops, with seemingly no direction. ok." alexsdad06 (11223) - West Chester, Ohio, USA - JUL 8, 2014
12 oz bottle from backlog notes 07. Pours a honey golden color with a small off white head. The aroma and flavor have some sweet character of a cream ale but includes orange citrus hops, caramel, some pine that works in toward the finish, mild bitterness, decent enough to have again. Bottle, 12 oz. Poured a burnt orange color, with a creamy, thick head, almost a nitro-sort of head. Aroma is of sweet hops and a bit of malt. Flavor is smooth but strong; some definite hoppy character shines through, but it is more than balanced by a big, malty body. Smooth on the palate; grassy spruce hops finish. 07/2007: The appearance is a dark gold/light orange. Hazy with plenty of carbonation. Big fluffy 1.5 finger of head. Looks creamy and good.
The aroma is sweet and fragrant flowery hops, but with also quite a bit extra. A sweet berry smell (cherry) as well as a hint of what seems like orange. Awesome. A little spicy Belgian tinge, but not the harshness that smell entails.
Really delicious sweet hop flavor, with some pale malt added. It’s very sweet (in a great way) and summery, but manifested within the hops. There is a kick of alcohol flavor, as well as a surprisingly spicy aftertaste.
It’s fizzy and bubbly, unusual for something so hoppy. It’s creamy and thick in the feel of the liquid. It’s a hoppy cream ale. Spicy, bubbly and fizzy. Quite a good drink when you can find it fresh. drowland (9184) - Georgia, USA - APR 4, 2010
12oz bottle courtesy StFun into a pint glass. The pour is cloudy yellow/orange with tiny floaties hanging around in there as well. The head is big, 3-finger, white, and quite fluffy and dense. The head sticks around for quite a bit as well. The aroma is fruity and malty and the flavor is the same. This really isn’t too bad!
