AKA Holiday Ale
AKA Holiday Leftover Ale
AKA Brown Sugar Substitute

This sad holiday season we didnt have the brewing capacity to make our favorite seasonal brew, the widely feared BrownShugga Ale. You see we had a couple of really good years (thank you very much) and so heading into this season while we are awaiting the January delivery of a new brewhouse we are jammin along brewing 80 barrels of IPA and PILS and such every 3 hours. A couple of months back we realized that since we can only brew a mere 60 barrels of Shugga every 5 hours, that we were seriously screwed. For every case of Shugga brewed, wed short 3 cases of our favorite daily beers. Its a drag. This year, we brewed something that we think is also cool and brews more like our daily brews. The new brewhouse will help insure this kind of failure never happens again. Its a mess that we can not brew our BrownShugga this year and we suck for not doing it. There is nothing cool about screwing this up this badly and we know it. Maybe we can sue our own sorry selves. There is no joy in our hearts this holiday and the best we can hope for is a quick and merciful end. F*@& us. This totally blows. Whatever. We freaking munch moldy donkey butt and we just want it to be all over...
So this substitute beer is a Cereal Medley of Barley, Rye, Wheat, and Oats. Full of complexishness from the 4 grains, and weighing in at 8% abv, Then joyously dry-hopped for that big aroma and resinous hop flavor.

sorry... i like a variety of microbrews & i thought id like this one since the description sounded ok (& ive liked other types by this brewery), but i could not stand it & in fact its sitting in the kitchen almost totally full. i wonder why it is that i HATE this so much that i cant even finish 1/5 of the bottle? i need to find others who disliked it as much as i did since i might find beers they like more palatable. (sorry for the non-technical review!)

Mildly hazy orange with moderate carbonation, good lacing and a thin foamy head. Aroma of toffee, caramel malts, brown sugar, citrus hops and and a slight rye scent. Very malt forward with notes of caramel malts, mango, citrus hops, brown sugar, and a slight rye spiciness. Light body and moderate carbonation. Very good!

Poured from a 32 ounce bottle into a snifter. Grapefruit and pine aroma. Clear deep gold color. Grapefruit flavor balances bitterness well. A wonderful west coast ipa.

Had a pint on tap at Ashleys. Quite hoppy, a slight sweet edge on the finish. Solid, not my style.

Bottle. Pours a clear amber with a huge bubbly white head that leaves a lot of lacing behind. Aroma is big, sweet and hoppy, of brown sugar, malt, pine hope, and a hint of candied citrus. Rich taste, of candied citrus, malt, sugar, toffee, then picks up a big hoppy bite. Lingering sweet hops. Very tasty.

On tap at Prohibition Pig, Waterbury Vermont. Golden like an IPA. Aroma is hops - smells like an IPA. Taste is the same (like an IPA). Mild hop bite on finish. Overall, just a solid, balanced India Pale.

Pours a clear gold, with some lacing and fun carbonation. Tastes of hops, grapefruit, and just a little funk. Not really for me, but I get why others like it.
